That sounds like that may be the problem. i have it connected using the hi def component wires with the red, blue, green inputs. i guess that's the only way to do it at this point until i get a new tv. thx

Could be a hdcp issue. If the bluray player is High-bandwidth Digital Content Protection but the tv isnt then youll get no picture, can you connect via scart.
see here for info

How do I get my HDMI ports to read 1080i instead of DVI?

The question really doesn't make sense. That's because 1080i is a signal resolution, and DVI is the connection cable that carries the signal. The two things are connected, but different.

It sounds as if your TV is searching for a signal; looking first at the HDMI input, and then the DVI input, before giving up because it found no signal.

Your next question should add some detail about the makes and models of the equipment involved and how you have them connected.

Link ASUS laptop to Sharp Aquos LCD TV

No, a DVI to VGA adapter will not work. (The TV is looking for the digital signal from a set top box. This is different from the analog signal on the VGA cable.) You need a converter. Your best bet would be a VGA to component video converter. (I am assuming that the Sharp TV has a component video input.) This page has some examples: http://www.ramelectronics.net/audio-video/video-converters/vga-rgb-hv-to-component-video/c10000-c11200-c11215.html?sorter=productname-en-asc . Note a VGA to component video cable will not work. The VGA to component cables are for projectors that read the RGB signal. The component video signal is YPbPr.

Connect the VGA cable to the converter and the component video cable to the TV and the converter with the computer and TV off. Turn on the TV first and set it to the component video input and then turn on the computer. Then (assuming the VGA port is enabled - adjust in the BIOS if needed) set the computer's video output to the VGA port. (On my Windows 7 laptop, this can be done by right-clicking on the desktop. Choose Graphics Properties and set the display to the external monitor or both. Click Apply and then confirm the change (on the external monitor if using the single monitor). (VGA to Composite video converters also exist if you do not have an available component video input on your TV.)

If your computer is fairly new, you may have an HDMI port. Your TV may be able to read the signal with a DVI to HDMI cable. (It depends on the TV. Not all of them will read the computer's signal on the DVI port. Check the documentation for your model. TVs without a VGA port are less likely to support this feature.)

I hope this helps.

How do I connect my PS3 to my sanyo dp50747 in hdmi? I have everything hooked up correctly, but its not coming up on the TV. What do I do?????

If you see a no signal message, then it means that the signal output format of the PS3 does not match . It happens if you have previous used it on another tv and now connected it to a different tv. To resolve this, turn off the PS3 . Press and hold the power button on the PS3 till you hear three BEEPS. The PS3 should automatically detect the tv's resolution and the initial setup screen should appear. After that you should just follow on-screen instructions to set it up.

I am trying to use my DVI input for HD quality picture. The video is great but i have tried all of the RCA inputs for audio and none of them give audio in DVI input. I do not see any RCA inputs for DVI. Do...

DVI does not use RCA inputs. It either uses a DVI input or an HDMI input. Look at the back of your TV for a small slot style input or a wide wedge style connector. If you provide me with your make and model number I can further help you.

HDMI to DVI-D conversion problem. Not in compliance?

It souunds like te TV is having problems with the streaming data being applied Most plasmas with DVI connections were actually designed for PC type input signals  Unfortunately the TV's input may not be able to stand up to the stream of signal the DVD or cable box wants to display. You can try and lower the output of both devices to 720P Good luck to you

Cable TV: Connect the LCD TV to the cable with CATV and Digital cable. Preset the cable TV channels into memory with Auto Scan function when using a cable TV system. Make sure you set the INPUT SOURCE properly (TV, VGA, S-Video, etc)

This TV won't support 1080!

Low or poor signal from the cable company. Try another signal source such as a DVD play.
