Hey there egklmnt, the official specs show it as part of its potential. So the answer is yes, however the problem will come later if your harddrive is still the 4.3 Gb one listed in the original specs for your machine. As you install the rest of your programs, the majority of the hardrive will be used up. You will constantly need to dump so you can add others. This becomes a real problem down the line if you have to restore, because that protective function of windows requires a certain empty buffer of harddrive space to maintain protection. I highly recommend you replace the small harddrive with larger one, or at least get an external harddrive. I would also recommend you max out your memory potential to 192Mb SDram. It will ease the work load on your system and also the harddrive.
Here is site with your system's origial specs:

Unfortunately, the Hard Drive size is only 4.3 GB, while WinXP takes 3 GB and requires at least 5 GB to run. Even if you did have an external Hard Drive, the amount of RAM is not enough to let you do anything. Stay with your current OS or get a new PC.

Compaq presario 900

1. back up

suggest you get yourself a USB hard drive, bigger than the size of all your important files. if you have 20GB of important files, get a external usb drive of atleast 60 or more I don't know if they actually sell that small drives anymore just make sure you have enought room.

2. get the the windows installation cd

with the windows installation cd you can format the hard drive in the setup

3. while in the xp setup

after the format you can install the windows on the computer again right away.

you may need to get drivers for your computer ones the windows is installed again.

you will need to find the correct model from the bottom of your laptop, and the drivers are available on this page
