    Hi alfred5 and aschnerch@yahoo.com,

To my knowledge, a Compaq N600c was originally without any built-in WiFi networking.

If under Win2K, you already have WiFi, then chances are that the WiFi networking device is an add-on. If yes, pls post back what card (brand/model) that is installed.
    Good luck and kind regards.

Your wifi isnt found.install hp wlan 802.11b/g w400 (wireless driver)at hp website.or search hp drivers.when you install driver wifi will be found and be running before you consider configuring it.
type in this address for most drivers,in fact the only drivers I havent found are for modem but generic drivers are fine.

Need help with Wifi Connection with COMPAQ EVO N610C LAPTOP

First you will need a router which will enable you to create a wireless network for your internet connection. I recommend, if you're purchasing online, to use Tigerdirect. Then you would need a USB wireless adapter for your laptop which will enable it to communicate with the wireless router and establish an internet connection.
Below are some links for the most affordable and best rated products you need.

I think i converted to fat 32 now laptop is a mess! compaq evo n400c.

You have to completely reinstall the Operating System on your laptop at this point but I would re-install either Windows 2000 or XP since you will have less problem with wireless drivers, printer drivers, plug ins, etc. Make sure you have a valid Windows CD with serial numbers. After that place Windows XP CD into CD-ROM and Reboot. And you dont have to worry about converting to fat32 as Windows 2000 or XP is already a fat32 file system. Read the prompts when it comes up and answer with appropriate answers..

Won't boot up to windows

Because of anti-piracy laws you will not be able to use your XP on the laptop. You will need to buy another xp to Install. Win 2000 pro is very prone to blue screen and crashes. You will need to re-install win 2000 pro.
When you buy and install xp it will reformat (wipe) the hard drive for you.

There may be many items on the following list of interest to you with your recent switch to Windows XP Pro, However the last 4 in networking referencing 802.11b and WL100 and possibly NetBIOS may well address the issues you are having.

Turn wireless on

Try the function key and F2. If that is not it then look for a key that has a wireless icon on it(looks like a tower with waves coming off of it). The F2 key is the one on similar models.

Hope this helps!
