SOURCE: doesn't recognize new SATA disk. Have checked

Check all your bios settings, make sure SATA is enabled. Also see if the drive can be installed on another machine.

Make sure your OS version can support SATA also.

Good Luck.

Hello,

Check the drive with another computer. One with Vista and one with Windows 7 if possible.
This will tell you if there really is a problem or not.

Hope that helps

Widows7 can not see the hard dish

If you just added the disk to the PC, you need to prepare and format it before Windows will see it.
Options:
Download the "Seagate Seatools" from the Seagate website to prepare the disk
or
Type "Disk Management" in the search box and select the "Create and Format hard disk partitions". You should see the new disk in the list. Select the UNFORMATTED area, and create the partition and format it.
The Seagate program is a much easier option...

Brand-new, I presume?

> is it a failed HDD

Yes. Take it back to where you purchased it, and get them to replace it, under warranty.

> software problem

No. It shows-up in "disk-management" as a recognized, but not-yet-initialized, device.
Thus, all the software to support it has been correctly loaded.

Exercise the warranty.

Seagate FreeAgent, 500 GB p/n 9nk2al-510 stopped working

There's not much troubelshooting you can do with a failed external disk. power off PC and hd and then disconnect all cables, wait 30 secs, power the PC on, let it boot to the OS, power the hard drive on and then connect. If the drive shows up but you still cannot access it or get weird property readings, it generally means the hd controller has failed. If the data's worth more than $1000, you can take it to a data recovery group like Ontrak or Cherry Systems, but otherwise, just get a new hd and restore whatever backups you have.

Doesn't recognize new SATA disk. Have checked that disk is goodand can be accessed with a USB controller. Also, the SATA card BIOS does come up but shows no device on either channel.

Check all your bios settings, make sure SATA is enabled. Also see if the drive can be installed on another machine.

Make sure your OS version can support SATA also.

Good Luck.

Mother board or CpU Doesnt work. technician said I have a ghost inside my CPU!

verify your bios settings with regards to what the pc is expecting in way of hard drive.
Do you have the luxury of another hard drive that you can try on this pc ? - this will 'suggest' where the problem rests.
Make sure the lead is fully located on the back of hard drive.
If possible - change the lead for a 'known working' lead (Maybe from the computer that your hard drive was recognized in)
