the cleaner for the printhead worked!

I removed the ink from the red cartridge with a syringe.

i injected a mixture of isoproyl alcohol & a little of that clear hand cleaner stuff into the cartridge and replaced it.

it took a few weeks, occasional cleaning, perhaps soaking through, and one magical day, yah, the red worked again like new.

    thanks

1) Make sure the tape is removed from the new cartridge (and there are no blockages to allow the ink to flow.

2) The heads can become blocked if the printer is not used frequently or if the printer is powered off by other than the printer on/off switch.

3) The printer needs to go through a cleaning/priming cycle when it powers down and if not powered off correctly the print heads can become blocked.

4) To unblock your heads try several cleaning sessions (I.E. 5-7) if not more. Always ensure that there is sufficient ink before the cleaning sessions as the heads can be damaged if you attempt to use the printer without ink. The ink is not only used for printing but as a lubricant for the heads and if your try to print without ink it is equavalent to driving a car without oil. The print head will eventually fail.

IF this doesn't work you may need to use a specialized cleaner for print heads that can be purchased from "Inkjet Cartridge" resellers.

Check your printer for warranty, as they will typically change it without too much hassle.

P.S. Make sure the tape is removed from the new cartridge (and there are no blockages to allow the ink to flow.

print a check of the nozzles, and check what colour (magenta) is not working. If the cleaning part does not help, perhaps you should put a new cartridge in, or clean again.

Despite new cartridges I am getting a weird colour balance. Too much of a red tinge..almost as if the cyan cartridge is empty. I have utilised the cleaning and deep cleaning options several times but this...

I was getting green tinges for a long time and even though I cleaned everything it still happened. I had also used non genuine cartridges.
Eventually I took the cartridges out and gently wiped clean where the ink actually goes in and this worked. I have always been told that non genuine cartridges will ruin you printer?????? I now have all genuine back in and it works with no tinges. Was is the cartridges that clogged it - I don't know. But now that I know how to clean I will propably use the cheaper ones.

I own a Sharp Al-1655CS about 2 yrs old, I have a problem, the balck toner powder is exiting the back of the machine and copies are very light. The copy count shows 12,000 copies made. I have repalced the...

These are very good machines so I would see no reason to replace it. Do you have the operators manual? If so look up the setting for "toner save mode" and make sure it is NOT turned on.
The drum unit is good for at least 18,000 pages so I would not suspect the drum. I even reset the counters on the drum units and can get up to 36,000 pages on them. Do you have the machine hooked to a PC for printing? If so is there any difference between printer density and copy density? If so then the issue is with the scanner density setting. If the copy and prints are both light then it is a print engine problem. If several toner cartridges are doing the same light print then I would suspect that your laser scanner optics are dirty. There is a narrow strip or slot just above the drum unit that the laser beam goes thru to write the image onto the drum. This should be cleaned and then the machine re-tested. If no improvement is see then the machine will have to be dis-assembled and cleaned which would require a compentant service technician.
Good Luck and Thank You for using Fixya.

HP 57 refill problem

You are doing nothing wrong. The nozzles are clogged. Try taking a clean syringe and put your finger on one of the magenta (red) refill holes. Fill the syringe with air. Put it on the second magenta refill hole and blow the air inside. That should force out the ink that has dried and that is not letting the new ink come out. You might have to do that several times. Sometimes, it can help.
If that doesn't work, go to a refill shop, they should be able to clean the print nozzles on your cartridge, no need to buy new ones.

All pictures come out too red.

my epson rx580 was also printing too red.  tried the nozzle cleaning, etc. several times.    didn't work.  i used paper towels and dabbed underneath the ink cartridges (removed) with the help of chopsticks.  then i took q tips to get the corners and other areas that glistened with wet ink.
replacing the current cartridges didn't help, so i changed all the cartridges (i use generic, so it wasn't too much of a sacrifice and the old cartridges were almost empty).  and voila!  the colors were all working again.  so that seemed to work for me.
