Defragmenting I tried to transfer applications from my friends calcutor to mine, but I decided that I did not want them so I disconnected the cable. Now whenever I turn it on it says DEFRAGMENTIG... and it will not let me do anything else. I took out the batteries and the bakup battery but it wont work. Every time I turn it back on it keeps doing it. Please help.

As you probably found out it's not the best idea to pull out the cable mid transfer. Well much like a computer, calculators have RAM and Hard Drive so that program is half on the calculator. The calculator is programmed to fit those files into the smallest space possible so when ever there is a huge transfer of data on a calculator, it defragments all your data. So you need to try to get rid of those half files. I'm assuming they're mirage files that run around 16000. So they're rather large files. What you need to try to do is to try to clear your calculator, 2nd then + then 7 then 1 then 2. But before you do that when it's defragging hit on to try to break the cycle of defragging. If you can break it go to 2nd + and go to memory manager and try to delete the programs by unarchiving them by hitting enter. (some might not need this) then hitting the DEL button. Remember to only do this to the programs you need to. GOOD LUCK. HOPE THIS helps. If it doesn't you are kinda out of luck.

I have attempted to transfer an inequalz app from on TI 84 plus calc. to another TI 83 plus via the black serial cable. I get the following on the screen of both calculators. ERR:memory 1:Quit 2: Goto...

The problem may be due to a lack of memory in the receiving calculator. Check size of the Inequalz application, the size of the archive memory left on the TI83 Plus, and the number of application spaces that Inequalz requires. An application may require 1,2 or more application spaces. You will have to go to to get the information.
Also, make sure that the batteries are good in both calculators.

I accidentally press reset all and now all my apps are gone. I was wondering how I can restore it back to normal with all the default apps just like when I bought it. Please explain in step by step fashion...

Go to . Download all the applications you want from this page and install them on your calculator.
For that you will need a mini to Standard USB cable or a TI USB Silver cable.
The drivers for the cable have to be installed manually if the computer does not recognize the device.

  1. From the TI website (computer software) download TI connect and install it on the computer.
  2. Run TI Connect, and verify that it finds your calculator:
  3. In TI connect main window, click Screen Capture or Device Information, or Device Explorer.
  4. Once the calculator is correctly identified, drag an application downloaded from TI and drop it on the TI Connect main window.
  5. It will install on the calculator.
  6. After transferring two or three apps, stop to allow the calculator to defragment the memory space.
  7. Resume transferring applications.

Change language

The TI83 PLUS doe not originally come with localization application for other languages. But the apps can be installed on the calculator.

If you want to use another language than English, go to and apps and download the desired language application on the computer and transfer it to the calculator by means of a cable and TIconnect software. Once installed on calculator run the language app and select the new language.

If however you have already done that before and now you want to revert to English, then run the language application again and select [2:English]

My ti-83 plus just reset itself and i lost all my important programs. Is there any way that i can get them back onto my calculator?

Yes. Go to Click the Download>>Software and Apps>>TI83/84Plus Family. You will find all the applications you lost and some others too.
Download what you want on your computer. Then use thye TI connect software to transfer the apps on the calculator. You need the TI USB Silver Link cable. If you do not have a Silver Link cable but have the Black Graphlink cable, you need the Graphlink software.
All these softwares are available on the TI site under Connectivity software.

Alternatively you can transfer them from a working calculator. For this you need a calc-to-calc I/O cable.
