I turn on the camera and it goes to access then a notice goes on to turn the power off and on again.

    This is annoying help.

When I turn the camera on, the word "Access" appears on the screen. The lens extends and retracts a few times, then the words "Turn the power off and on again" appear on the screen.

I tried solution #1 (hold and gently twist the lens when it extends), but this did not help. Perhaps I was not forceful enough, but I'm a chicken. If you could tell us which direction to turn the lens or if it is straight out, and a bit more specifically how forceful to be, this may help.

Thanks for trying to help us.

Switch on when the lense extends take hold of the end and gently twist and pull the lense you may hear it click. be gentle do not force it then switch on and off again this should solve the problem

I have a Sony DSC-W50 Cybershot camera that won't take pictures or videos anymore. It powers up fine and the screen works, but when I hold down the shutter button all the way, it focuses and nothing more.

Sony cybershot DSC-W50 lens problen

thats normal.
it just doesn't have enough power to bring the lense back in.
once you charge your battery and turn it on the lense will automatically come back in and then out for you to take a picture.

I had the same problem with my DSC-W55. I actually just called the customer service number on the sony website and they told me how to solve the problem.

- Take your battery out
- Press and hold the power button for 60 seconds
- Re enter your battery
- Voila.. it should work when you turn it on. Mine did.

This is what sony cameras do when the lens has become jammed. There are multiple different reasons that the lens can jam but the result is the camera being unable to move it as expected and presenting that error message. Sometimes the lens can be manipulated gently (if extended at all) and freed from the jammed state. Failing this, disassembly is required. Check with your manufacturer for warranty service status and recalls. If they will not cover it you can find a repair provider online. David Millier Advance Camera Repair

Hi there, resoldering the focus motor contacts on the lens unit might be the solution. Replacement of the optical (lens) unit is the ultimate solution. If you want more info please contact me at LIVE Expert Assistance. Best regards, Arpi

Green, I spent some time today with a sony tech rep on line. We went thru the motions of battery, memory card and still no help. So I'm sending my camera back to sony for repair. Mine is still under warranty. Hopefully yours is too. Good Luck. Mike aka m1stones1
