Fedders 65 Pint Dehumidifier Fan Problem

Fedders Dehumidifier (model A7DH65B2A) fan quit working. Everything else seems ok - lights come on, condenser begins to work but the fan never comes on. Any suggestions? Idea on approximate repair cost? Can the fan be purchased?

We also had to order a new fan, however our dehumidifier has worked well for 2 yrs prior to this replacement.

The inexpensive plastic fan cage cracked and then makes loud noise, goes off balance when spinning,. Replace fan cage/blade on your own as Maytag 5 yr warranty is now void due to Maytag/Fedders reorganization. Just order replacement at www.appliancefactory parts.com, part #CRCFD5303-010 Fan about $20.

I have the same problem. The fan motor bearings are bad on mine. You can get a new fan motor at Appliance Factory parts.com. Phone number 1-800-955-7075. $44.95 + shipping.

I have a dehumidifier that runs but does not pull moisture from the air in the basement. the application is about 3-5 years old. It is a Maytag and I purchased it at Home Depot. The Model is M3DG30B2A A....

There are a couple of things you can check for and they are; First of all, when you say the unit is running you may only be hearing the fan run. The compressor may possibly be not running(if it isn't running you will have no dehumidification as a dehumidifier is really nothing more than a small airconditioner.(cooling a coil for the moisture in the space to condense to). Second, The space may be to cool for the unit to run and dehumidify well, The space should at least be 65 degrees or warmer. Third, the system may have a leak and it is out of or low on refrigerant(freon). Depending on what you paid for the unit and if it has any remaining warranty(parts only-labor not covered) if the system is out of refrigerant or if the compressor is bad it probably isn't worth the cost to repair.

Fan not working

Shut the power off to the unit, spin the fan blade to see if it spins freely. If it doesn't spin freely, (there appears to be a little drag when you spin it),the bearings are bad, if it does spin freely, then try moving the motor shaft from side to side if there’s any play in the shaft side to side then the bearings are worn and motor needs replaced. Then, check the capacitor, if it’s bulging even slightly, the capacitor is bad and needs replaced. Most of the time people replace the capacitor if motor seems ok. If capacitor is ok, turn power on to see if the motor is getting the proper voltage, if it is and not trying to run, then the windings are probably open, the motor's bad and needs replaced.

Unbearable noise

Mine does the same thing, for the third time. Seems the plastic fan on mine, lasts a little over a year. Not hard to change, just a bad design on the part. I'm ordering an extra tis time, to save on freight.

if the fins feel cold then you should be collecting condensate. so try this: remove the outer shell to access the fins. with a garden hose, spray the fins off thoroughly. you may see a lot of dust and line that was clogging the air flow.

if it does not get cold anymore, then a freon charge is necessary, provided the compressor was not damaged from "left it on for a long time once and found that ice had developed on it. I know that being left on could cause a problem"

Normal operation, the unit has sensed icing and is in the defrost mode (compressor off and fan on high). When the ice melts normal operation will resume.
