Question about HP PSC 2175 All-In-One InkJet Printer

Bogus paper jam

When printing, paper should initially stop just past the print heads, then the heads should start printing as paper advances. Instead, paper advances about an inch past the print heads and says there's a jam. There's no jam. 'Cancel' reverses the paper about an inch, then advances it 'till it's all out, and the same thing repeats again. This happens whether printing from computer, or scanning without computer, so I don't think it's a s/w issue. In any case, restarting computer doesn't help, and turning printer off & on again doesn't help either. The 1st time I did this I pulled the so called jammed paper out the front, instead of removing it from the back. Computer msg says to remove jam from back, or it could damage the device. I see no damage (ribben & belt in place, pribt heads move readily) and no evidence of a jam. Help!? Thx.

Thx, now it works, tho I didn't do all you said - just snapped off the black plastic cover, pushed a tooth pick in the sensor and was able to push it up a bit, but it wouldn't come off. Maybe I should have pushed up harder but I didn't want to break it. Anyway, it now prints right - maybe moving the sensor up and down restored contact, since I can now see the blue lite flash when printing starts, and don't recall seeing it when it 'jammed'. Thx again.

I have the same problem, but don't know how to find the sensors mentioned, to clean. I have an HP officejet 6310 All in One.

I had the SAME problem with my printer and after hours of searching on the web I found this solution on fixyourownprinter.com and it WORKED! I cleaned the contacts of both of the ink cartridges and then popped off the cover of the optical sensor on the side of the ink cartridges (black plastic cover over sensor assembly snaps off) there is a hole in the middle of the sensor, push it in with a thumb tack or toothpick and push up on sensor assembly and it will come off the side, clean the contacts on that and reassemble..the blue sensor light should come back on and you should be back in business.

Epson wide format printer stops in the middle of a job saying paper jam. But I know it is not paper jam.

I do not know this particular printer but several things might be wrong. Make sure all the paper handling sensors and rollers are clean. Check to see if the next sheet of paper is sticking to the first and blocking a sensor. Check to see if the paper is advancing properly. Sometimes the roller will spin but slips on the paper, if the printer senses that the paper is not advancing properly it will throw a paper jam code. Make sure you are using fresh, crisp paper and the holding tray is at least half full.

False "paper jam" signal prevents printing: My HP 2210 had been working fine. Suddenly, when I try to print, the paper starts to feed for a few inches and then stops. I get a "clear paper jam" error...

it's probably due to what i would call the print head blocker ( on your left handside of your printer head) that is broken . check it out! it also responsable to control how far goes the sheet before start printing.

Stops feeding paper at start of printing and repeatedly states there is a paper jam. why wont it feed and how do I get paper out as it is a sealed unit. initially paper was feeding too far thr so printing...

With out knowing the make and Model of the copier it can be difficult!
Suggest that you clean the rollers that pick up the paper with a clean lint free cloth and water.Ensure that you unplug the machine from the power point first.

Have the same problem

This has nothing to do with printer drivers or O/S. It means the print head is not travelling correctly. Did this happen after a paper jam? If so see my previous post:

Check that there is no paper jammed up on each side of where the print head travels.
Easiest way to do this is to power off/on. While the machine is going through its initial startup listen for when the print head travels along its carriage (from right to left). When you hear it, immediately switch off the power.
Open the main body of the printer and hopefully the print head will be stopped midway, you can then check at each end for any jammed paper.
If this does not solve issue, it will require an engineer.

If you are in the UK, call Brother UK tech support on 0870 830 4000. They will arrange a warranty repair, or pass you on to a repair agent if the machine is out of warranty.

When i turn my printer on the light flashes green once and then orange 5 times. cannot get past this stage - any ideas?

Here are all the flashing explanations:

Two flashes: Out of paper or paper feed error

Reload the paper correctly and press the RESUME/CANCEL button.

Three flashes: Paper jam

If paper has jammed in the printer, clear the jam, reload the paper in the printer correctly and press the RESUME/CANCEL button.

See Paper Jams

Four flashes: Empty ink tank

If you press the RESUME/CANCEL button, it will continue printing with an empty ink tank. After printing is finished, replace the ink tank immediately. If you continue printing with an empty ink tank, it may cause damage to your printer.

Refer to your Quick Start Guide for instructions on how to replace an ink tank.

Five flashes: No print head installed/Defective print head

Install the print head. Also, ensure that the protective tape has been removed.

If reinstalling the print head does not solve the problem, replace it with a new one. Contact the Customer Care Center.

Eight flashes: Waste ink tank almost full

The printer has a built-in waste ink tank for the ink used during print head cleaning. Eight flashes indicates that the waste ink tank is nearly full. Press the RESUME/CANCEL button to cancel the error so you can continue printing. Before the waste ink tank becomes completely full, contact the Customer Care Center.

Epson R320 "General Error" message - unable to clear

If you are getting a 'carriage jam' error as soon as you turn on your Epson printer with no tasks in progress, then check for any piece of paper stuck in the carriage. Remove the paper carefully. If the paper tears, part of it might remain inside the paper path and damage the product.

Fix 'Carriage Jam' : Open Door, clear carriage jam,
and then press OK to continue' error message
Turn off the printer and open it to see where the paper is stuck.
Manually move the carriage toward the opposite side.
Check the paper path and remove any piece of paper or any other object that is stuck in the path.
Reconnect the power cord and turn on the printer.

Printer is not working

Try pushing the print head carriage with a bit of gentle force. It is getting stuck, and hence the error. You may have to open side and top covers to reach this. Note: this is not the cartridges, but another device that moves back and forth on the slider carriage.
