Re: my jensen dvd player mvb85
I think there are 90% chances of video wire plugged in wrong port... remove the wire from dvd player and tv,, and again plug in after checking your manual. In settings check for ntsc/pal mode, if you have these option, try changing to different mode..

If this is an over head, all in one dvd player, well,if the player works and the sound, and the dome lights...it has power. The issue may reside with the monitor being disconnected (ribbon cable) or the monitor is done.
you probably set the audio for 5-channel. In a 5-channel set up. Which it doesnt sound like you have there is a 5th speaker in the center of the dash dedicated for clear vocals. Play with surround options and i'll bet you can fix it
I believe this is a wiring incompatibility problem. The reason I say this is because when the mp3 player is out the jack which contains switches engages the front L&R and the Rear L&R, when the plug is inserted into the jack the jack switches should remove the audio input to the amplifier and replace it with the audio from the mp3 player. The switches should then send sound to the front L&R and the Rear L&R but the only change should be that the mp3 player is switched in instead of the audio from the raido unit. what is happening is that the jack switches are only switching in the front L&R speakers. This just might be a function of the unit. check the owners manual.
here is a site that has the manual:
