Popping noise once magnavox 42" flat screen lcd tv is turned off...help is it suppose to do that?

My 36" flat screen Magnavox (about 13 months old) had one "pop" sound, then the screen went black -- then the green "on" button flashed, "on" even after I turned it off, so I pulled the plug. I waited 1 hr, plugged it back in but all I have is a black screen. I recently hooked up surround sound, but that should not affect the picture...what's wrong with it?

Is it only one time? If it is out of the speakers this could be going from analog audio to digital audio. It could also just be the cabinet expanding and contracting.

Nope, don't think it's the speakers...I still get a black screen.

What is involved in replacing the power supply board on my Magnavox 42mf438b/27 42 in.

Pretty easy. Place the monitor face down on a blanket or something like that. Remove the screws on the back of the monitor (there will be about 20). Pull the back off, set it aside and then remove the power supply board. Pop the new one in and put it back together and you are good to go.

Magnavox 42 inch flat panel cannot get a picture

TV may need software upgrade. Go to menu, find instalation, find software upgrade, find. If version is bellow FL2D-r23 (#23) TV needs upgrade.
Get upgrade on the internet onto a USB flash drive. The file may be a ZIP file, if so, unzip to a folder in PC then put the file to the USB drive.
Turn TV on, plug in the USB drive, wait til the upgrade is finished. Unplug USB drive, turn TV off w/remote.
The TV will then turn on by its self and the upgrade is complete.
Hope this works

Magnavox 42 LCD 42mf438b/f7 turns on/off by itself sometimes screen goes blank tv unresponsive to remote

I have exactly the same problem with a Magnavox LCD 42", very similar model 42MF437B/37. I don't have a solution. If you unplug the TV and plug it back it starts working, sometimes for hours, sometimes for less than 5 minutes, before it turns off again. Does anyone have any real solution?

Magnavox 42 LCD 42mf438b/f7 turns on/off by itself

Mine was doing the same thing. Update the firmware and it fixes the problem. Updating the firmware is done by downloading the file to a thumb-drive from the phillips product support page then plugging in the drive into the side of your television and turning it on. See your manual for slightly better instructions.

My 3 year old Magnavox 42 ''popped''

It sounds like you had a failure on the "X "and or " Y " boards. It is repairable but not cheap. it couild run a easy 700.00 to 900.00 or more if problems are across both boards. the only way to find out is to get a NAP Service Man out there and take a peek. There is also a possibility that the Plasma Panel was damaged when it failed. This would render this unit not worth repairing.
Hope this helps,

Vertical black line on the screen of my 42" Magnavox flat panel lcd tv

I wish I could post a solution, but I don't have one. I too have a Magnavox. About 6 months ago, once every 2 weeks or so, the screen would just go black- all but an inch or two on either side. Now, it seems like it's a weekly thing, sometimes every hour or two. As of tonight, it has happened twice in a matter of thirty minutes. It usually repairs itself if I turn it on and then off again but that's just not working anymore. If anyone has a solution, let me know.
