The e-5 error message is caused by overheating. I had the same error messager a few months ago.
The problem was the air vent on the left side of the unit was clogged with fuzz from the carpet and dust which had accumulated over a two year period.
To fix the problem use a vacuum hose with a brush and try to get the bristles underneath the plastic grill and vacuum the metal radiator type unit underneath the plastic.
When the air vent is cleaned the unit will resume normal operation.
I had to (finally) unplug the unit and take it outside and clean the vent with a waterhose to get all of the gunk out. I also purchased a sheet of charcoal filter (a few dollars) and velcro and put my own makeshift filter on the outside of the housing over the air vent on the left side.

Followed the advice, and did get a lot of fuzz/dust out, but the unit did not resume normal function. Sounded like the compressor kept trying to kick in, but wouldn't. I'm thinking the compressor is shot, which may also lead to overheating error cod after several unsuccesful cycles. I think after laboring so long under clogged conditions, the compressor burned out. There should have been better access to the side vent for cleaning and instructions to do so routinely. Poor design.

It's 30c outside, we're trying to get cool and the aircon is blowing out air that isn't much cooler. I have the remote set on 21c with an icicle showing, but the conditioner is saying 29. I don't know...

In some models, setting temp flashes for 5 seconds, while setting. And then what it shows is room temp.
To get proper cool, keep the tips as follows:
1. Check air filter is cleaned. 2. Check indoor coil & out door coil are cleaned. 3. Checkindoor blower motor is working. 4. Keep in cool mode. 5.Check compressor is working with correctpressure. keep your arm on suction line (bigger pipe) in out door unit. If you feel chillness, pressure in compressor is o.k. otherwise, leak or short of gas. Call repairman to rectify.
Thanks. Helpful?

I have an 18000BTU unit that has an LED that flashes 5 times and then stops, could you pls advize as to the error code of the LED flashes.

You haven't mentioned the brand name. As the error code changes brand to brand I give some solutions. Check with your unit.
e-5 Outdoor activation of compressor over heat protection-Clean condenser coil and check out door f.motor speed. If less replace capacitor.
e-5. Blower motor lock Rotate manually. If hard to rotate, replace bearings or motor. If easy to rotate, replace capacitor.
Please mention brand name and other full details to get solution quickly. Thanks.

When I turn on my tcl airconditioner it seems to work for 1 minute then I either get an error message e0 or e5. I've only used the airconditioner half a dozen times & it's 12 months old. How can I fix...

E-5 with blower motor mechanism locked. Please rotate your blower motor manually, if it's hard, replace bearings or motor.

E-0 means communication error between indoor to remote.Replace new batteries in remote and try.

I get a E4 errror code.

The broken water tank flipper will directly cause the unit to not function and the E-4 message will appear on the display screen.
