It could be a defrost heater problem . the heating cycle is not defrosting the ice that is why your having frost build up. the heater could be damaged, thermosdisc damaged, electronic timer module damaged.try thawing it up by unpluging it for a day or two until there is no more water dripping at the back then try it again, im sure the refrigerator section would cool again for a week or two before it wouyld go back to the same problem. dont forget to bring back the setting to 5 for freezer and 35 for refrigerator in order for the thermostat to work.

GE Model TPH 21 PRSM WW does not turn offf

Many things that could cause the problem First if you just plugged it or have little in it, it will run for a long time. Next check if if it is cooling properly place a thermometer in a liquid it the refrigerator compartment it should read around 42 degrees. If it is warm in the refrigerator compartment Look at the freezer back wall for frost buildup If you have frost on the back wall, you will need to defrost it and repair the defrost circuit. This is a. Common problem on GE models If the temperature is good in the fresh food compartment you will probably need to replace the thermostat or cold control

What else can I check - my fresh food side of fridge is still too warm, freezer fine.

GE refrigerators use a board to control cooling and defrost functions. The fresh food compartment also utilizes a motorized damper, and some models even have a fresh food fan. Air enters the fresh food compartment at the top left corner, and the return air is also in the left wall down near the crispers. Both paths must be clear.

The freezer is cold, the fridge is warm, and the fan in the back of the freezer is running.

Hello,

Ya got 2 possible thing that will cause that

1) the damper in the upper left corner of the refrig.compartment is stuck closed so no cold air can enter from the freezer into the fresh food compartment,by placing your up to that damper their should be some (not a lot) of air flowing through it. If not it is stuck closed

2) its not defrosting in the freezer so the freezer coil where all cold air is made is totally one huge block of frost again causing air flow into the fresh food compartment to be cut off.Do you see frost build up on the back wall of the freezer?? if so this link describes what to check http://www.fixya.com/support/r10097882-wrong_when_freezer_frosted_refrig_warm

STAYS WARM, CURRENTLY HAVING TO USE THE FREEZER COMPARTMENT AS OUR FRESH FOOD STORAGE

hi ,
your freezer cabinet need to get all out and open the back wall.
  1. you have 2 element that can be check one is the heating element , two is the thermostat.
  2. you need a volt meter to check them.
  3. if the frost is all over the coils then one of the element i told you before, is bad
  4. if the frost is in one area not all over then you got gas leak.

Freezer builds up with frost on back wall, not working and then will kick in and work

By "not working", do you mean that the compressor is not running, or that the temperatures in the fresh food compartment and freezer compartment are not getting properly chilly.

The coils on my ge gss22wgpd bb side by side keep freezing up . IU can defrost them manually and the freezer and fridge work fine again.

This has happened in my GE side-by-side (model GSS20IEMDWW). For me, the problem was caused by a faulty temp sensor in the fresh food side. That sensor never signalled the computer that the temp in the fresh food side was cool enough, so the compressor ran constantly.

Since the compressor was running constantly, the evaporator coils (back wall of the freezer compartment) eventually iced over (took about a week). Since the fan that draws air over the evaporator coils could no longer move any air (due to the icing), the temperature in the fresh food side continued to climb. (The fresh food side is chilled through a hole with a motorized door at the top of the dividing wall, so if no air is moving in the freezer compartment, temps in the fresh food compartment climb.)

I replaced the temp sensor in the fresh food side and solved the problem for a while. About six months later I had the same problem again, so I replaced both temp sensors in the freezer compartment - which solved the problem again. (My fridge is about seven years old.)

If you are going to replace any of the temp sensors, replace them all under the principle of "if one failed, the rest will soon fail too".

This site has schematics of various appliances, including the model number you provided...

Your model appears very similar to mine - in the "Fresh Food Shelves" section of the above site, the sensor is diagram number 242. In the "Freezer Section", the sensors are diagram number 241 and 243.

Freezer cold /refrigator warm . we have a side by side unit a couple of years old the freezer seems to work fine but the refrigator is warm .It don,t seem to make any funny noises and the back is clean

When the compressor is running, if the fan by the compressor and the fan inside the freezer are both running, and there is no frost on the back wall of the freezer (if there was frost would indicate a defrost issue) then check the air dampener. It is located at the very top left back side of the fresh food section. If it is not opening up, no air will flow from the freezer compartment (where all the cooling takes place) into the refrigerator section.

Freezer works refrigerator doesn't ge tbx-25zle

Hi: Your defrost heater or defrost timer is bad. There is an off chance your freezer or fresh food compartment are so full they block the airflow. If not full, Remove the food from the freezer, unplug the ref. and hit the back wall of the freezer with a hair dryer. Avoid plastic components as they will melt. When your defrost mechanism fails frost will form where it shouldnt and block the airway to the fresh food compartment. That's why the freezer still works. That will get you a week or two of fresh food getting cold. If your'e handy remove the back panel of the freezer at the bottom will be a glass tube with a metal coil in it. If the coil is broken buy the new defrost heater and install it. If not look for a defrost timer. Use the model number of the refrigerator to find the part. www.searspartsdirect.com will have a parts schematic to help you find out where the timer is located. There shipping is high so try to buy it locally. I hopes this helps, Jeff

Freezer works but fresh food seems warm

If you have frost on the back wall of the freezer compartment you have a defrost problem. When the freezer coil does not defrost the refrigerator does not get air for cooling.
