Question about HP DVD940e Burner

Won't print lightscribe label

I am suddenly unable to print the label on the DVDs. I get a message saying "waiting for the drive to become ready". The drive is ready. Then I get a message that says "Disc infor encoded in the middle of the disc could not be read". I am using the HP Lightscribe DVDs. It won't print on any of them. I have never had a problem printing before so I don't know if the unit is defective. It's not a year old yet.

Okay, this may seem obvious, but i had the same problem, when it dawned on me, the label side has to be down. It's like when you think your lawnmower's broken, when it's actually only out of gas

This is a common problem when you ordered your discs from the internet. When your discs are shipping, they're spending several days in the heat. The heat damages the read surface. All shipped discs are going to give you problems, but if you just consistently push the disc back into the drive and repeat the command, it should eventually work.

In the future, whenever possible, always buy your LightScribe discs from a local store. They're unfortunately getting harder and harder to find locally, and more expensive due to the rising demand and falling supply, but it's the only way to prevent this problem

Also, the same thing happens if you leave them in your hot car several hours after ordering them. Best to take them straight home and put them in a cool place.

I also just now found out that sticking discs whose LightScribe read surface is damaged in the freezer for about 20 minutes and then taking them out and letting them thaw out in a cool, dry place will drastically reduce the effect of this error message. This makes ordering online a good and tasty possibility again.

Best thing is to claim the warranty for it as not a year old yet but before doing this try a different supplier of disks. or use a cleaning disk see if this helps you could always reinstall the drivers as maybe a software issue.

Thanks J

How do u use use lightscribe

Use the CD/DVD label maker program your burner should come with (or some other one). Create the CD/DVD label however you want, just don't be too extravagant... it may not come out very nice. Put your lightscribe CD/DVD media label-side down (upside down) into the tray and print away. Then you wait, wait, wait, and wait some more. Afterwards, you'll probably want to actually put some data on that disc.

LG Super Multi will not detect DVDs in the drive

Try the unit on another pc if it can read a dvd disc. If it can read a dvd disc then maybe you can try to uninstall the program for the dvd rewriter and then reinstall it again.

HP DVD 1040 external lightscribe

  1. Clean Drive: commercial cd/dvd cleaner + air compressed can with narrow pipe inserted into device to reach lens.
  2. Update you sw from http://www.lightscribe.com/ (Control panel, diagnostic tool, application)
  3. be sure service is started: as Administrator go to Control panel/Administrative tools/Services
double-click on Lightscribe Service, and if it says disabled change it to automatic, then "start service" in the left pane if is already started and set to automatic stop and restart it you don't have to reboot to see results.
It worked for me on HP6710b with internal drive and with liteon external burner
