Question about IBM ThinkPad T40 2373 Notebook

1 Answer

Thinkpad T40 will not come on...

My daughter spilled some juice on it. It was closed at the time and when I checked it the keyboard was not wet.

When I put it on there is power, but its not booting.

I have years of valuable information on the laptop and would like some assistance in getting it working please.

Thank you.

Its making the boot up noise but the screen is blank. There was no visible damage as the juice was only at the top of the cover...

    Thanks for your advice.

At the first look I would say it was  a short circuit somewhere.
a despearate solution would be to take the hard from it and to put it into another compatible laptop..in this way you dont loose your work.but for everything you might choose to do,please, visit a specialised service.
laptops are very delicate things.
bye bye

My IBM T40 has got a liquid spillage on the keyboard while was operating !! , when I left it for some time then tried again, it powered up normally & worked very fine But once it turned off , it...

Once the liquid was spilled it was important to open and do a full clean up on the board. Now it seems there is moisture or shorting in the board due to this which can cause this malfunction.
So it is best to remove the keypad and check on the mother board. Clean the board and dry using a hair dryer. Make sure that the keyboard also is fully dry .
Reset only after the board is fully found to be dry . If the set wont power ON then some damge was done when it was powered the last time due to the spillover shorting.

It's possible that this is a hardware problem, but it sounds more like a loose connection to me. Start by removing the keyboard and checking all visible connections. You should be able to see the touch pad, keyboard, and screen connections with the keyboard off, and, yes, I realize that you cannot check the keyboard connection with the keyboard off, but you can when putting it back on. For some reason I keep getting people that love to point out the obvious lately, so I'll throw that in there right off the bat. Also check the hard drive to see if it's seated properly. If the problem persists, you may need to take the cases apart and check all connections on the board.
