My LG Machine is approximately six months old and has worked fine until recently, and most new DVDs that I put in the machine get a no disc / unkown disc type message. The discs have all been standard region 2 or 0 discs, and the have all worked on my computer. I have tried resetting the machine to default settings but it still cannot read the discs I put into it. Any idesa befor I have to try to get it repaired?

You may have come close to what the issue is---Blu Ray for several design reasons is much more critical than DVD---seen a lot with this issue----either a dirty or a failing optical pickup in the unit---I know as when first started seeing it in our shop changed a few and since under warranty found the answer--optical unit was the problem---shortly after that they started just exchanging the cheaper units.
Check the model specifications for your device. Some players will only accept DVD-R and not DVD+R or not DVD+RW discs. I know it all seems the same, and it's very frustrating, but many companies restrict the type of discs they will allow. My player does +R but not -R. It should still be able to read DVD discs that you made yourself, but they will be of a different type.
I think the simple solution is to NEVER EVER purchase another thing made by LG. Vote with your hard earned dollars thats how i'm going to deal with it. I have an RC797T that I really like when it works, the only problem is that every six months or so I have to pay $69 plus shipping to have the software reloaded at the service center, this so it will play dvds not the tray open tray close game. I don't think it is Best Buys problem if you don't take stuff back in 30 days they are off the hook. Get the word out tell everyone you know that LG sells junk and not to buy it. If this info was online when I was shopping for a new dvd player I would have one that works not L_ousy G_arbage.
I also have this annoying problem - but I bought mine new on ebay and have zero after-sales support. I have tried all the hacks I cna find over the last 12 months and when I am finished, the messages all say 'congratulations, you're now region free'. But even the local DVDs don't work. Disc ejects itself with irritating message 'unknown disc'. Does anyone have this problem who has a SALES RECEIPT from an authorised LG dealer? If so, can you jump up and down with LG until they offer a solution? Thanks!
