Go to drivers.softpedia.com and search for "Lexmark X1278" It should have all the software and drivers for all operating systems.

If you do not have the disk you must download the software from Internet, follow instructions below,

Click here:Official Lexmark Drivers and Software

A web page will open, follow instructions, select model, select operative system etc., and click on download .
Chose to download the file in my documents when asked.
After downloading, find the file,double click on the file ,then if you get in troubles, follow the instructions below to reset and reinstall drivers:

Unplug printer USB.
Go to control panel >> installed printers in Windows and remove (delete ) any installed printer from printer list.
Download driver from website, or use the disk and run the install file.
Follow driver installation wizard.
Plug back printer when prompted from installation wizard.

Usually you do not need a CD but you do need to have the driver installed. You can download the correct driver at http://www.driverwizard.org/wizard/p/Lexmark/printer?ms.lexmarkbroad.wizard . Let me know if you need more help.

What you are looking for is commonly referred to as drivers.
You can go to the Lexmark website and click on the link titled downloads.

You will then be at a page where you will be asked to put your model number.

Two things you are going to want to now before you start this process.
1) What is the whole model number of your printer. e.g. (x2500, cri2500, etc.)

2) What operating system doesn't the computer use that you are trying
to connect this printer to.

The site should also include instructions on how to download and install.

To install driver u need the cd..if u dont have the cd...download vista compatible driver from www.lexmark.com .Connect USb cable to computer...make sure printer is powered on..install driver(either by cd or downloaded driver)

No harm with loosing the cd, you can always download the drivers from here:
http://search.lexmark.com/printer/US/en/15K0000

Just select your OS and download all the drivers you need
