Question about Canon PowerShot SD630 Digital ELPH / IXUS 65 Digital Camera

1 Answer

LCD replacement I would like to replacement the LCD screen on my SD630 myself, however the only help I see indicating how to replace it is for a SD600 - is there a difference in the installation process or can I follow the SD 600 instructions? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Debbie

I dropped my friends canon powershot sd630, the back lights still work, it is just the screen that is messed(might be smashed from the inside as there is no cracks on the outside) there are loads of funny colours on the LCD screen. The screen is 3inch, I would like to know where I can purchase a replacement screen from and some instructions on how to replace this. I would really appreciate your help.

Same problem here, broken LCD on IXUS 65/SD630. There are repair guides for a lot of other models but not this one. If anyone has replaced an LCD screen successfully on this model, could you please guide us through your process.

The SD600 instructions should be pretty close. Some other examples of LCD screen replacements from the SD series are listed here:

Broken screen

If the camera is fully functional other than the screen, then yes the LCD screen can be replaced, you can order the part yourself from a Canon dealer if you wanted to do the job, or let them handle the repair with an estimate.

SD600, the camera time resets everytime i turn it on. i read the manual and found out that there is rechargeable lithium battery built into the camera to save such setting. does any one know what type...

There's a little battery in the camera under where the tripod mount is. Make sure your camera is out of warranty before attempting any repairs. Opening the case will void your warranty. Do this at your own risk.
1) Remove all six screws from the outside of the case.  2) You'll need to loosen the LCD panel, there are two little tabs holding the panel, and one screw up by the speaker (photo/movie/view) switch.  3) Remove the screw by the speaker, this will give you access under the LCD. Do not unhook the LCD cables.  4) Now under the LCD panel you should see a screw that connects the metal backplate with the tripod mount, remove that screw.  5) On the bottom, on the main motherboard, there's another screw holding the tripod mount in.  6) After removing the tripod mount, you should see a battery under the LCD cable.  7) On the main motherboard, gently (GENTLY) remove the large LCD cable and pull it through to the other side.  8) You should now see the battery pretty clearly.  9) Replace the battery. MS614X 10) Reverse the steps.

Lense won't retract on Canon Powershot SD630

Lens errors are fairly common. Usually it's sand or grit interfering with the lens extension mechanism. Or the camera's been dropped with the lens extended. Or the camera has been powered on, but the lens had been blocked preventing its extension. Or the battery ran down with the lens extended ...

Here's some things that you can do to try to correct it. They only seem to work for less than 50% of the lens errors, but if the camera is out of warranty, they're worth a try. You're also more likely to be successful trying these than going inside the camera:

Finally, if you absolutely must open the camera, here's a couple guides to replacing the camera's LCD that may help:

LCD Screen

Hi

Your LCD screen is either defective and needs to be replaced, or the cable has come unplugged and needs to be reset, or there is corrosion to the connector on the cable.

You can get a replacement screen easily, and you can also have it installed for you for a reasonable price. (Google Darntoothysam, we are an affordable digital camera repair business!)

Most of the time replacing the LCD will solve the white screen problem and it's really not too hard to do yourself.

Good luck from Darntoothysam com

Bright White Screen

Most likely either your LCD has gone bad or the cable has either shifted. Even if the LCD is pure white, the LCD can still fail or be bad.

Here is a link to a guy who does repair and replacement for LCD, and also sells the LCD if you want to replace it yourself.
