Unseat and reseat the CPU, make sure none of the pins on the CPU are bent.

Check on the motherboard for any puffy capacitors, good capacitors have flat silver tops where bad ones look puffy or pregnant. If you find any puffy capacitors then replace them with ones of the same UF rating and the same or higher voltage and make sure when you take the old ones off that the new ones go back on the same way with the colored side matching up with the striped side of the cap.

If there is no puffy caps on the motherboard then at that point you know the motherboard is bad.

Hi, I have a GA-X58A-UD3R on a personaly built system and it won't boot. The led lights turn on and then off a few times and then stay off. I've already removed the motherboard & power supply from the...

Have you tried another power supply? It's an easy thing to check, and people often don't consider the power supply if the system comes on. Also, you may have bad RAM. Try using one stick of known good memory and see if you still have the problem.

If the problem still occurs with a new supply, and good RAM, it's almost certainly the motherboard that's at fault. While you might have bad CPU, the motherboard is far more likely to be bad.

This kind of problem is why so many computer techs go bald. Especially when there are multiple bad parts, which can happen. Good luck, and thanks for using Fixya!

Computer won't power up

Make off power.
Remove the RAM.
Check the beepcode occurs or not.
If beepcode is long then RAM DEFECTIVE.
===> Erase to polish contacts of RAM with soft white presto eraser.
If beepcode not sound, open Processor and recheck. same.
If again negative, just short green and black wire of SMPS after opening from motherboard. SMPS must start and check all voltages. If not start SMPS Defective.

Please give your feedback so that further repaire can be made.

Thanks

Dell motherboard {GX 270} over heating.

Hi

It seems the system is "dying" or already "dead". The initial heat issues suggests a faulty Processor (PRC) Fan. Faulty Power Supply Unit (PSU) Fan can have same effect.

Open the Base unit; disconnect everything (incluiding Keyboard, mouse, network) power-up and check that PRC and PSU fans are working.

Also check the QUAD Pack Diagnostic LEDs and compare the sequence with http://support.dell.com/support/edocs/systems/opgx270/en/ug/solve.htm#1235408.

This will help with identifying the cause. Try the Dell Suggested Resolution.
