Question about Samsung HL-R5078W 50" HDTV

Lower left quadrant has shadow

After tripping and falling against the TV stand (ouch) my set now has a permanent shadow on the lower left quadrant of the screen and a dot of what appears to be a reflection near the center of the screen on the edge of the shadow. The projector lense was cleaned, but the shadow remains. The repair guy says it is "the light engine", but I have my doubts. The estimated cost of replacement is $1500.00.

After contacting a Samsung service center and being told they had no idea what I was talking about, I challenged a local repair man to try and replace the light tunnel. He agreed and I bought the part for about $75. He replaced it ( along with a new color wheel which cost $150 and a new lamp which I had already purchased) Total cost for me $358.73. This is a far cry from the $1500.00 estimated by the Sears service guy. Thanks for the education! All is well. The shadow is gone, the picture bright as new again.

By knocking into the tv you have shifted the light tunnel in the light engine. The repair for this is to replace the light engine the part number is BP96-01198B you can order it from Samsung parts.com The cost for the part is 985 dollars but if you return the one the repair man takes out you get a core credit of 350 making the light engine only 630 dollars or so...You should be able to find a repair shop to put this in for labor of less than 300 maybe even 250...our shop does a Samsung for 190 Labor. Hope this helps.

Look in users manual or internet you should find how to access service mode, this is different from regular setup CONVERGENCE, this involves getting into changing parameters to tweek convergence, even after amps are changed. These projection tv's are known for loosing convergence if bumped, moved and amps go bad in time.

Samsung dlp tv

Yes, it could. There is a light pipe in the light path that could now be broken from the bumping or it could just be out of line from the bumping. Another problem could be the mirrors in the projection path could just need adjusted by the 3 screws that are beside the mirrors. This may also happen when bumped.

This is due to you having a projection tv, some projection tvs are really bad for game playing and especially if you have a hdtv. even in the p23 manual it says that you shouldnt use with a projection tv cause it can damage your tv's screen permanently. I personally still play mine but, thats likly the problem.

The split screen shadow remains on my 52SWX10B projection TV

Unfortunately, this sounds like the transition between the split screens is now burned into the phosphor of the CRT's and is permanent, unless the CRT's are replaced which would cost as much as a new TV.
