I have had a couple of these with the same problem , and in 2 out of the three cases the cure was the same .. Earphone socket fault ?
Ear phone sockets are designed to dissconect the speakers on insertion but with the constant use and pulling they get on a mobile system they sometimes lock open and do not reconnect the speakers you could check that ..
The other one I had was diffrent that one the sound output chip was faulty and had to be replaced as did the speaker output capacitors , one had failed causing the chip to overheat .. hope this helps Regards Vortash
I started pushing buttons on my remote, at one point everthing on the menu went Chinese, until by some fluke I was able to get it into English again.
I kept a piece of paper so that each time I discovered what a button was for I marked it down, I can now play a DVD and am discovering new things each time.I have about 10 more buttons to go, some do nothing.
I am impressed at the capability of the player it has many possibilities, I bought it in China never thinking that the remote was in chinese, so there you go another lesson learned.!
Thank you for your inquiry
Unfortunately the lens for this player will cost more then a whole new player. These tiny players are designed to be thrown away after they are worn out. Your best plan is to throw it away and purchase a new player.
Basic DVD, CDrom Troubleshooting wrong disk ,disk error, First Clean the lens: http://www.ehow.com/how_2036275_clean-lens-dvd.html wont open, wont close, makes clicking/grinding noises etc. http://www.llamma.com/xbox/Repairs/thompson_dvd_tray.htm
How about cleaning using compressed air( it looks like an aerosol paint can)? Cleaning using cotton buds will only clean the outer side of lens, compressed air in can will clean the inner side of the lens. its like cleaning you computer keyboard, ( actually compressed air in can are used to clean the keyboards). A 30psi pressure of clean air is enough to wipe the dirt out of dvd lenses.
