If you are installing red hat 8 and higher there is no need to install extra driver because linux is the only operating system which will install everything including drivers, office suite, programming tools etc .... as far as my suggestion dnt install old versions of linux instead install new version ... there are many linux available
ex: fedora core 4,5,6 ,knoppix live cd linux ( which boots linux from cd no need install it) ,ubuntu, red hat, mandrake, suse ....
you can download it from net 4 free as linux is open source 4 all ...
be careful while installing linux especially during partitioning..... if u make a mistake you will lose all datas

Im trying to install red hat linux enterprise 9 but it give error said no drives found.what can i do?

RH 9 is an old distribution. It simply may not be able to recognize SATA drives.
(Red Hat Linux 9, the final release, hit its official end-of-life on 2004-04-30 - Wikipedia).

If you are looking for a desktop solution, you would be better off looking at any one of these newer (and supported) distributions.

Ubuntu
http://www.ubuntu.com/

Fedora Project
http://fedoraproject.org/

OpenSUSE
http://www.opensuse.org/en/

I'm not endorsing any single one. Each has it's advantages. Plus there are others besides these.

Find in your BIOS if you have an option that says configure SATA as IDE, AHCI and raid. Set it at IDE and try again to install the OS. After intaling do not switch back because it will not work.

Sata Hard Drive not detected on Bios

Hi,

When istalling th O/S the system will ask you to press F2 to install the SATA drivers, if you do not press this and install the SATA drivers for the HDD, the system will not read the drive,

Re-install the O/S and watch (( you get 3 seconds to choose it ))

Press F2 when it asks you
(( are you installing SATA HDD ))

Stick the driver in at this point
(( you should have a disc with drivers on it that came with it ))

Finish the install, the system will then read from the SATA drive,

It's because usually the system is looking for a IDE drive.

Your using SATA, so you need to tell the system, that this is a SATA drive,

You will be good to go then

Regards
Richard.

Im trying to install red hat linux enterprise 4 but it give error said no drives found to create a new file system please help if anyone know the solution of these problem.

Use a boot partition manager to create a new partition for the operating system. A popular one is Gparted - http://gparted.sourceforge.net/livecd.php

You can use it from a CD, a USB stick, or a PXE server. One of the easiest tools around.

Check in your BIOS settings that SATA drives can be seen as "ATA"
Install Linux, and then , after everithing went OK, change BIOS to SATA again.

Just buyed Western Digital Caviar SE WD1600AAJS 160 GB SATA

you have to enable the raid controller in the bios to see sata hdd nad have you pluged the power connector to hdd which is by the sata cable port then to your sata port in the motherboard, then install sata card drivers for your motherboard then reboot and after you have rebooted goto devise manager and see if it is reconised the driver if you have a yellow question mark then select it then right click then uninstall then click yes when removed driver goto the icon with spyglass and computer on and doubleclick on to search for new hardware once done reboot then your new hdd will be in the my computer icon.

hope this will help

SATA Drivers for Hitachi HDD

Is there a BIOS setting to temporarily put the SATA controller into legacy mode? XP would then think it's an IDE drive. Then, after installing XP, install the drivers from the motherboard CD, then go back into the BIOS and turn off legacy mode.
