Doesn't recognize disks anymore

My LVW-5005X no longer will recognize that I have a disk inserted.
It will open and close with no problem, but always reports NO DISK.
I have tried already written DVD disks, blank DVD-R and DVD+R disks,
and blank CDs.
The unit has worked until now, but I had trouble with the door opening so I had to open the cover and remove the burner so I could get to the manual eject lever. Now it opens/closes with no complaint, but somehow it no longer recognizes there are disks in the unit.
I HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM ,IT DOESNT RECOGNIZE ANY DISK PUT INTO IT, IT REPORTS NO DISK, PLEASE HELP, ON MY LVW5005 RECORDER.

Check here for some more info.
If any of the above do not work, is more likely that the laser that reads the info from the DVD is not working and will need to be replace.
Good Luck.

Sony vx-515 dvd tray won't open

Mine was a Sony TS-P532 DVD in a Model GX315 player. A BLU-RAY disk got inserted and won't eject. Remove the player cover and on top of the drive is a 3 X 3 (approx) metal plate with a plastic wheel visible in it. Un clip the two sides of the metal plate and it will pivot up and the disk can be removed.

You need to replace the disc tray belt,it streches with age.It is called a square belt, size 1.9.To open try tapping on TOP of cabinet with your knuckles just above the disc tray door. While you are doing this press the Open button.Once again this must be done at the same time, the door will open 90% of the time. When you get it open you will see the little black square belt, this can be removed and replaced with a twizzers.Make sure belt is in the track if not it will jam and door won't close.

My NAD cd/dvd T550 displays NO DISC.

I have the same problem. When I insert a disk, my NAD T 550 DVD player displays 'No Disc'. It started with new disks while still reading older disks, but at some time it stopped recognizing any disk. Did you receive any suggestion yet or has anyone a suggestion?

Unreadable disk error

The laser in 5101 could be defective or maybe just dirty.Try cleaning with a commercial cleaning disc, put a drop of rubbing alcohol on cleaning brushes. When this happens sometimes it will still be a usable disc but not always.Try putting in another dvd player or recorder or your PC if it plays dvds, the readers in PC are of a better quality and will often read discs that those cheap dvd readers can't.
R+ or R- discs need to finalized after recording RW+and RW- discs do not.It is always a good policy to finalze the second your recording is finished otherwise it may not play in other players or recorders.
When you make a recording in a dvd recorder an it doensn't recognize the disc it just recorded it quite often has a defective laser. This particular model has been plagued with early laser failure.

After formatting the disk, it reads that it is an invalid disk.

I have a Liteon LVW-1107. It is a very tempramental machine. It tends to prefer +R or +RW disks. Will record on -Rs but may fail with them.
On occasion when I insert a store bought DVD movie I will get an
invalid disk warning. The machine seems to get confused.

What I do is pull the power cord and let it set a few minutes.
Give it a little time to reset. Sometimes you have to do this a couple times. It has always worked for me. I hope it will work for you.

Good luck. This is not a top of the line machine.

Doesn't recognize disks anymore

This is a common problem with the Lite-on LVW range of DVD recorders due to changes in the construction of more recent DVD R media. It can be solved with a relatively simple firmware upgrade.

Goto : http://r00.liteonit.com.tw/DC/english/download/index.asp

You'll need to have a blank CD and a CD/DVD writer in the PC you use to download the file.

Follow the instructions on the website to upgrade your firmware, this should then allow you to write to DVD's once again.

No Response To Open Button on Remote

I had the same problem- the door would not open.
I opened up the unit removed the drive and discovered a lever which allows to manually eject the tray. After playing with this a bit, I discovered that if I hit open on the until and depress this lever, it would open reliably. Not ideal, but at least it gives me ability to open/close.
Unfortunately once I put the unit back together, it no longer recognizes any disks. I must have damaged some disk sensor mechanism in the process. On the bright side however, it open/closes reliably now, doesnt even require the lever to be depressed manually. So if I can just get it to recogize disks, I am in good shape again.

You may not need to open up the unit and remove the CD burner to get to the manual lever, but you have to remove the fancy cover plate for the tray to be able to access the lever. The cover plate on mine is silvered and says "All write". The lever is on the underside of the tray to the left side, a paperclip might be able to poke thru to access it without removing the whole front cover.
Good luck.

LVW - 5005

Remove the cover of LVW and access the DVD assy, unscrew the 4 screws holding the DVD assy to the LVW bottom, remove the top and bottom shield (also 4 screws)and remove the top black plastic cover (4 screws). You will access the DVD spindle.Remove the disk if you still have a disk stuck inside.Visually check the spindle sticky rubber ring, most likely some sticky material migrated on top of the rubber ring and your DVD was stuck on it. Clean the best you can with a cleaner and a non lint cloth.I used a cleaner/degreaser for electronics.DO NOT POWER your LVW BEFORE reinstalling the black plastic cover. There is a laser inside !!! You may now try and if the drawer opens and closes, reassemble everything opposite way you disassembled.
