Question about GE Profile PFS22 33" Artica French Door Refrigerator w/ 22.2 Cu. Ft. Capacity, ClimateKeeper System ...

1 Answer

Water freezing I also have a problem with the water freezing in the door and fresh fruit section. A repair man just came and said it was the part at the top of the refrigerator that basically does not allow the refrigerator to shut off-something with the fan. He also wants to replace the water tank because they apparently crack and can leak after they thaw out. I can recall that the price for the water tank was 42.00. I just looked it up on line and I can purchase that part for 18.00 at just the first place I looked. My question is what is the name of the part that he said was the section in the top of the refrigerator and can it be repaired by a novice? My husband can do just about anything (electrical excluded) and we have been hit with so many large expenses lately. The total to fix our refrigerator was going to be about $286.00. Ouch! What do you think?

I decided to attempt to test this myself rather than wait for my husband. I removed the sheild and light bulb, held all temp buttons down until they flashed, pushed the filter reset button and looked up into the little box area. I saw no movement of anything. I could hear a fan noises but again saw no movement of any object in the area you told me to look at. Does this mean the door is staying open and that is why the refrig. is freezing? Sounds right. I attempted to exit the test mode by putting the freezer temp on 1 and the refrigerator temp on 6. Was that what you meant? Also, I think I told you the water tank is frozen. What do I need to do to get that thawed out? The repair man said that should also be replaced because the frezzing can make cracks in the housing and I could end up with a water leak. Is that true? Thank you for your help so far.

I pulled out the drawers and unscrewed the water tank. I could see some water moving in part of the tank. I layed it on its side andput a pan with boiling water on it. within minutes the water started working again. Since the tank did not totally freeze could I assume the tank is not cracked? I am going to take everything out of the refrig and let it defrost. I guess I could tell then if there is a leak. Right now it looks like I just need to order a diffuser. Does that sound right to you?

Hi,

Freezing happens when damper door breaks leaving the unit with no control over the very cold air entering fresh food compartment from the freezer.
The damper door (DIFFUSER) is located at the very top left of your refrigerator section in back. It has a motorized door that opens and close's and it may be stuck open. More than likely it is broken and needs to be replaced.

Replace damper door , with new damper door kit WR17X11508

http://www.repairclinic.com/referral.asp?R=1265&N=1055112.

To verify the damper door is broken , remove the light shield and rear light bulb from the top of the refrigerator. Enter the factory diagnostic mode by pushing all four temperature control buttons at the same time. Perform damper motor test (FZ 1 , FF 0). Press any other button i.e. Custom cool or filter reset to start damper test cycle. Shine flashlight through right hand side opening of light assembly to view movement of damper door. To exit test mode (FZ 1 , FF 6). lf damper door assembly needs to be replaced , pull top two shelves out 2 ". Pull rear tower assembly slightly forward with both hands, move to the left and the right to expose the two screws that secure the duct assembly , also remove both screws that secure the duct to the ceiling. Replace with new damper motor assembly WR17X11508

Goodluck,

Yes so far u have done everything right..
And yes since the door is open that is cause of freezing..

Your technician has cautioned u about the problem that there are chances of water leaking out and it can make cracks..
Well he is right in that case and i would suggest u to get it fixed by him..
There is no home remedy for it...

To fix the water leak u can try doing the below method.

Try defrosting it, if this doen't work then do the following and ur problem will be solved..

BLOW AIR THROUGH THE DRIAN HOSE IN THE BACK OR BOTTOM OF THE FRIDGE FIND THE END OF THE DRAIN HOSE USE AIR COMPRESSOR .....

    Here is another solution:

inside of freezer, take back cover out and thaw the ice with hair dryer
or hot water. don't use any sharp tools. When thawed make sure water
    drains through defrost drain.

I think ur tank is alright..and ur going in the right direction and i hope ur problem gets solved soon..

No water from dispenser Matag New filter solenoid valve working, tube to dispenser seems to be blocked

Hello Hans;

My name is Peter. I am a retired field service refrigeration technician.

There could be several areas that would effect your water dispenser not working:

1.) When you depress the water dispenser do you hear a 'Click'? If not you have a bad water dispenser contact switch.
I would send you a diagram but I do not have your model number.

2.) In the lower back of your fresh food section is your water dispenser water tank. At times this can freeze near the freezer section. Look in the lower corner of the freezer & your fresh food section for ice build-up.

3.) You could have a bad water filter. This does happen often. Remove the water filter and test you water dispenser.

4.) Do you have water leaking out of the bottom of your dispenser door? If so you have a split in the tubing in your water dispenser door.

5.) Is your ice maker working? Often the water valve to your refrigerator becomes plugged up and you do not get sufficient water pressure 60 PSI to operate your water dispenser solenoid valve.

This is a very common problem with Samsung refrigerators especially the type that has two evaporators. The evaporator that is inside the fresh food section and will usally give people the most problems. The drain below the evaporator in the fresh food section will begin to freeze over or become blocked by gunk inside the drain line. When this happens it causes the fresh food section to retain water because with the drain blocked the moisture and defrost condensate water now have nowhere to go. Once that drain is blocked the freezing over of the evaporator will begin to happen more often slowing down defrost which again make problems worse. Clean the drain, make sure the refrigerator is level and confirm the model number of your refrigerator. Your model has no defrost timer and defrost are determined by the motherboard. There is a way to force defrost with your model from the motherboard but until the drain is cleaned out defrost will not help much because the water has no where to go but to freeze over the evaporator and fan area of the fresh food section evaporator. PSC23NSTESS FREEZING VEGTABLES

Side by Side ModelsIf foods, such as fruits and vegetables, in the refrigerator are freezing, it can be caused by several things. First, check the controls. They should be set at "C" and "5" or "5" and "5". The proper fresh food temperature is between 38 and 42 degrees Fahrenheit. The freezer should be between 0 and 8 degrees Fahrenheit.
  • If food in the bottom of the refrigerator is freezing, this could be caused by a refrigerator not having enough food to absorb the cold air.
  • If food in the door is freezing, move the door bins up or down so they are one notch away from freezer vents (Side by Side models only).
  • The fresh food control should be at the normal setting of 5.
Freezer on Top Models
First, check the controls. They should be set at "C" and "5" or "5" and "5". The proper fresh food temperature is between 38 and 42 degrees Fahrenehit. The freezer should be between 0 and 8 degrees Fahrenheit.
  • Since the cold air coming into the fresh food section originates in the freezer above, the rear of the top shelf will be the coldest spot in the fresh food area. Avoid placing delicate items that freeze easily on the back half of this shelf.
  • If food is freezing in the produce (fruits and vegetables) or meat pan, it may be that the temperature controls are not set high enough. Since cold air naturally falls, the pans can get too cold if the refrigerator is not running long enough to maintain good air circulation. Adjust both controls up one notch.

Amana AFI2538AES The refrigerator portion keeps freezing the fruits and vegetables. The chiller control is on the warmest setting and the refrigerator temp is set at 43. I have been raising every once...

Our Amana afi2538aes is doing the same thing. Had a repairman out. He called tech support at Amana. They had him adjust the "thermistors" but it is colder than ever running at 28-30degrees in the fresh food compartment despite being set at 46 degrees. Tech support also recommended installing some sort of "ice bin seal kit to take care of the problem" according to our invoice from repairman. Repairman was told that the ice bin in the fresh food compartment puts cold air out (to keep the ice frozen) which freezes the food in the fresh food compartment. I called Amana and the rep I spoke to said he couldn't find record of this being a problem with the model but tech support told our repairman "we've had a lot of problems with this happening."

My fruit and vegetable drawers keep freezing my fruits and vegetables. What could be causing this to occur?

Hello, Most times this is a bad cold control, but there are other things to check for. Make sure the condenser fan is working and the coils are not covered with dust. A separated heat exchanger ( small capillary tubing soldered to the large suction line ) can separate from one another and make the fridge run too long. - tape tubing back together. A poor working evaporator fan motor could also make the fridge run too long and freeze - replace the fan motor. An inefficient compressor or refrigeration system could make the fridge run too long and freeze - have a service tech check this out. A misaligned control settings, make sure the air damper and cold control have not been bumped and are out of normal settings. Stuck open air diffusers or air dampers are becoming more and more common for allowing too much air to be blown into the fresh food section and freezing things. On all frost free fridge's the freezer temp air is blown into the fresh food section, if you have "easy" to freeze items ( eggs, veggies in water, etc ) in front of or under where the freezer temp air comes out, they could freeze - store them in a different spot. Doors not closing properly making the fridge run too long is something else to check for.the air deflector....
As you know, the deflector directs the freezer air toward the front of the frig and the rear of the cold control I hope this will help....

Ice and water not working, then freezing in refrigerator, leaking

If the water tank in the fresh food section is leaking then you will need to replace it. the freezing in the fresh food section is due to the damper door not closing when it should. at the top left of the fresh food side there is a door that controls how much cold air it gets from the Freezer side. This door on your GE is controled by a motorized door witch is controled by a controlboard witch is reading sensors in your freezer and freshfood section for tempretures.

In short your freezing problem could be any of these:
temp sensor, Motorized damper door or control board. I would check the Motorized damper door first.
