If you insert the old cartridge, does it recognize it? If it does, then it's a problem with the new cartridge. Try to check if you already have taken out the protective tapes out of the cartridge.
If it still doesn't recognize the old cartridge, then it's a problem with the printer.
first install to the computer your printer..there is a CD together with your printer when you bought it..get the CD which is labelled installer..quickly insert it to your CPU after this a comment will appear to your computer monitor then just simply click the install button then click again the "next" button..thats it..
o.k. you said you cleared the paper jam.. double check to make sure everything is clear.
Then try hitting the o.k. resume button. If this does not clear your problem try unplugging the power wire from your printer. Wait like one minute and then plug power back in.
Hopefully this resets your printers memory.. if not try pressing o.k. resume again.

Yes you install without the disk ,first you need to click here then type X1240 you get option lexmark X1240 ...and then choose the OS and download the driver file and install in on your computer ......
try turning off the printer then reboot the PC, then turn on the printer if this doesn't work try the software may not be installed properly. Try the following:
1 Right-click the My computer icon.
For Windows XP, click Start to access the My computer icon.
2 Click Properties.
3 For Windows 98 or Windows Me, click the Device Manager tab.
For Windows 2000 or Windows XP, select the Hardware tab, and then click
the Device Manager button.
4 Look for the Other Devices category. If there are any Lexmark devices
shown here, highlight them and, then press the Delete key.
Note:The Other Devices category appears only when unknown devices
are present. Do not delete any Lexmark items unless they are
present under the Other Devices category.
5 Insert the CD, and install the software again. Do not restart the computer.
Try to reset it by removing the power plug form the printer and waite for about 10 minutes ,then reconnect the power cord switch it on again and see if the error has gone.
