Hello,

Have you checked if the option for the Microphone is selected? Go to the Sound settings and then click Option/s. Make sure Microphone or Mic is selected.

Thanks!

Driver of sound

The Dell Support web site only offers audio drivers for Windows XP or earlier versions of Windows.
If you are using Windows Vista or 7 then you will probably have to rely on the default audio driver that these versions of Windows will load automatically when installed as Dell do not offer an official device driver for these versions.
The alternative approach if the built in sound device is not recognised and you cannot find a suitable device driver would be to buy either an internal sound card or a USB sound card - the latter just plugs into the USB port, provides the normal audio sockets and can be used to connect your speakers, headphones, microphone etc.

on your systray (the space on the lower right with all the icons on your screen) you will see an icon that looks like a speaker. right click on it and go into settings. make sure the mic is not muted. if it is unmute it and that should solve your problem. if you open the volume control and the mic is not among the devices shown, look at the tabs at the top of that screen for the mic. again make sure it's not muted

Installed a rangeplus adapter on dell 1000 inspiron xp sp3 home

See if you can go into safe mode by hitting the F8 key right after the dell splash screen and right before the XP splash screen comes up. If you can get into safe mode try to uninstall the rangeplus adapter and try reinstalling again after rebooting the system normally.

Computer starts then goes to black screen and system recovery wont work error code 257'

Hi,
The display drivers maybe corrupt.

Boot the machine into safe mode. Right click on My Computer (XP) Computer (Vista) and select manage from the sub menu.
When the window pops up select Device Manager.
A device list will populate. When it has look down the list for Display Adapters. Click on the + icon next to Display Adapters to it expands. Right click on the display adapter and select uninstall.

Restart the computer and let it boot in normal mode.
If it boots in normal mode let it detect the Display and install the drivers for it.
I would be a good idea to update the display drivers via the Dell Support website

Regards.

Won't work with microphone

Make sure that you have the latest audio drivers from your motherboard manufacturer's website. That will usually fix the problem.

Cannot install CARD GAMES for Windows

It's probably an issue with Vista, right click on the icon, go to properties, run as administrator, and run in compatability mode for XP. If this doesn't fix the problem, try contacting the software manufacturer.
