Hope this helps.
1- Make sure the USB port is working by plugging in a flash drive to see if the computer recognizes it, 2- Most the time the contact from the bottom of the iphone is collecting dust due to phone in and out of pocket preventing a good electrical contact. Have it cleaned with dust sprayer. 3- Trying to use it charger unit to see if there is a problem with a cable so it can be replace. the necks of the cable get bent so much can cause the conductor broken inside.
Try turning it off and then back on, if turning it on and off doesn't work, restoring it might work. Also try to remove the SIM card and put it back into the phone. I recommend simply exchanging the phone at the Apple store if it is still under warranty. Click on the links below to see other soultions for the charge and sync iphone problem

Hi
Thanks
for using FixYa. From what you have described it sounds like you might have a
faulty battery. When the iPhone battery completely
dies off, you cannot charge the phone using a USB port from a computer. It
needs the regular wall charger to start charging. The USB port charging method
using the sync cable only works as long as you have some charge left in the
battery for the device to boot up. If you have already tried the wall charger then
it is for sure that it’s the battery that has gone bad. Also
please make sure your computer is
not set to go to sleep as when your computer goes to sleep, it in effect cuts off
the power to the USB connection. But since the iPhone is connected it thinks
that it needs to be on. Sleep mode will drain your battery instead of
charging it.
Please do
accept the solution if the issue is resolved or else revert for further
assistance.
Thanks
