Question about Sharp UX 108 Roll paper Thermal Fax

1 Answer

Light or not printing on left side, sometimes middle

I bought this sharp UX-108 (telephone/fax)about 15 years ago and never had a problem with it. It uses a thermal roll of paper, but I don't know if it takes a cartridge or what I can do to bring it back to the way it used to print. Or is it kaput?

Thanks so much. It's pretty much the same conclusion I'd come to.

Anymore it is more expensive to repair a fax machine than it cost to replace it most of the time.
I would say its time to replace it. Parts cost on those are increasing dramatically.

I did look the ribbons up for you fax, they are $15 at many online locations.

I wish I had a more acceptable answer for you, but after 15 years, the problem with any piece of office electronic equipment becomes issues with connectors and contacts building resistance, and often times issues become more complex then you expect.
I noted in my responce that you asked is it Kaput, and that was pretty much where my answer was based.

Your particular for of fax is more or less based on a dot matrix form of printing.

I have always thought if you are happy with the equipment you have, don't spend the money on replacing something you really like. The problem you will run into if you have to pay someone to service an older piece of equipment, is, you will have to weigh whether it is worth the investment.

Restoring your fax is most likely possible. But the real question is how much do you want to invest in an older technology.

Sorry if my answer was not what you were looking for. But I just base what I offer on 30 years experience, and that opinion is that if you are in business, keep the technology as current as possible and keep as many warranties and maintenance agreements in tact, since I see so many people run into huge bills unexpectedly for equipment.

It is very frustraiting the price of ofice equipment parts. Basically the manufactures offer the equipment at close to or even below cost to ensure revenue flows with supplies and service maintenance, and even though I never used to believe in maintenance agreements, service costs are a killer now days, and I can't even offer so many services on products as I would like because of the cost prohibitiveness of servicing small office home office products. It is frustraiting

First make sure the original document is loaded with the correct side facing down. If not the problem try taking out the roll paper and reload it with the other side of the paper facing up

Cant receive faxes using sharp ux-108 model

If it sends ok, then it has probably been switched to "manual reception" or "telephone mode" from "automatic reception" -check manual on how to set.

Incoming fax shows one half of the page

The Thermal printhead is most likely burned out on one side and will need replaced. It could also be the printhead connector has worked loose and is only making partial contact. Remove the connector and reinstall. If that doesn't solve the problem then it would be cheaper to purchase another fax.

Sharp UX-108

There is probably dust under the glass on the mirror...have to remove the glass to wipe the mirror off with a cotton swab, but removing the glass is tricky and very easy to break. Was the first one printed from the fax? I assume that you can receive faxes just fine, but the streaks appear when you copy or send out faxes...

Would be cheaper to replace the fax than repair it.

How to load paper

Just put the thermal paper(paper roll) inside the machine and the SHINNY side of that thermal paper would be on the Top side where the thermal unit is place or vice versa.
