Charging problem

hi
My name is adil and i own a motorola a 1000 phone,few days back my charger pin broke and i broght a new pin but i didnt know which one was posstive and which one was negative,so i took the two wires and tried to test them on the charging jack of my ophone,i dont know wht happened but from that day my phone is not charging every time i insert acharger it shows no charger detected,i have tried many chargers.please help me
