Coolpix S7 - lens isn't working but screen is fine!
Hope you can help me before I take this to the repairer!
Bought it in May in Japan, and in December it simply stopped capturing images - I turn it on, and all the things you expect to see on screen are there except the image. Plays back photos taken previously with no problems.

Apr 4, 2011 - ... broke my lens cover on my nikon coolpix s52. when i try to turn it on it says Lens cover error and has a ... Can i fix it myself? What would be the approximate cost of repairs? ... How to fix Nikon Coolpix L6 digital camera lens?
Lens errors are fairly common. Usually it's sand or grit interfering with the lens extension mechanism. Or the camera's been dropped with the lens extended. Or the camera has been powered on, but the lens had been blocked preventing its extension. Or the battery ran down with the lens extended ...
Here are some troubleshooting steps that you can try that may (or may not) correct it. They only seem to work for less than 40% of the lens errors, but if the camera is out of warranty (or repair cost approaches that of the camera), they're worth that try. Some of the later steps do involve some risk to the camera, so carefully weigh your options before deciding to conduct them:
Your camera lens is already misaligned, so that Lens Error occur, it will not disappear unless the lens is disassemble, aligned the mechanism of lens ( the proper synchronication of mechanical parts) and assemble. If you cannot do it, send it to the your nearest camera service center, call them first if they can accept repair on your Nikon Coolpix S210, how much, if repaired how many months will be the warranty. I hope my advice help you.
No, even if you could find a lens for free this is not an easy camera to replace the lens on. Even a qualified tech would take up to an hour to replace. Understand that today's cameras low cost makes replacing the camera a better option than repairing a camera who's value used is less than the repair cost.
With the lens facing downward, hit the camera a sharp tap against the palm of the hand whilst simultaneously turning the camera 'ON'. If that fails, tap against a stiffer surface (desk or table), allowing room for the lens to extend and taking care not to damage the body of the camera.
at the back of the camera next to the view finder (bottom right hand corner) is a button and icon marked SEL.
pressing this button toggles the lens image from the view finder to the lcd screen and back again.
IF neither view is available then I suspect your camera needs some TLC at a repair shop.
hope this helps.
We often see the CCD and the lens iris being the source of this problem. Look in the lens while the camera is powering up, you should see the iris opening, if not, you have a defective CCD, Hope this helps you!
