The brushes spin by virtue of an air driven turbine. This turbine uses a little of the motor suction to turn a large fan which turns the brushes. If you look behind the clear glass window on the front right hand side of the machine, you will see a screen which acts as a filter to keep debris out of the turbine. If this screen becomes clogged, it will affect the flow of air to the turbine and the brushes will slow down or stop all togeather.
Also, if the lid of the recovery tank is not on correctly, the suction will be compromised and the brushes will not turn and the machine will not pick up water off the carpet.

I have a Hoover Dual Power Max carpet cleaner that had a belt bust on me. I replaced the belt as its suppose to go, but now when i turn it on, the spindle that the belt actually sits on and gets rotated...

The replacement belt might not be a genuine Hoover part. A slight difference in circumference could allow slippage. Also, the brush roller bearings could be clogged with debris which would cause the drive belt to slip.

I have a hoover F5853-900 steam cleaner.Everytime i lift it up the brushes turn but when they are on the carpet they quit.I got told that this model does not have a belt.I really love this steam clean

The brushes are turned by a motor. No belt. It's possible the gears on the brushes have a flat spot on them which would stop them from turning under a load.

My hoover F5515 was working fine but when I pulled out the tsnk to remove dirty water and place it back and turned it on, brushes stop rolling.

Hello Sonny! If the dirty water tank is not put back on securely it will prevent brushes from spinning. Take off the dirty water tank and replace it making sure it locks onto the cleaner and is flush. Now check your brushes for obstructions. Remove all hair and debris from the brushes. If the brushes still will not spin take your cleaner into a Hoover authorized service center for repair. Follow the link to locate the nearest service center in your area. Hope this was helpful!

On hoover steam carpet cleaner, the brushes do not rotate on low or high settings.

Follow these steps if the Brushes Fail to Spin
•If the brushes on your Hoover carpet cleaner fail to spin, there may be a problem---some sort of blockage---with the suction or with the belt that turns the brushes.
Turn the Hoover carpet cleaner over, and inspect the brush area. Debris, strings, or pet hair may be tangled in the rollers, keeping them from turning. Use a pair of scissors to cut away any obstructions in this area. Flip the Hoover carpet cleaner back over, and turn it on to see if cleaning the rollers has solved the problem.
To check the belt, turn the Hoover carpet cleaner over, and remove the bottom plate screw with a Phillips head screwdriver. Investigate the belt area to see if it is broken or has somehow slipped off. If it is broken, you can order a part from Hoover.com or from many of the other online parts stores.
When the belt arrives, simply slide it on in place of the broken belt, reattach the bottom plate and turn the Hoover carpet cleaner right-side up. Turn it on to test your solution.

Scrub brushes not rotating

Hi There,

You'll need to first diagnosis why these brushes are not spinning. When the SpinScrub brushes on a Hoover SteamVac don't spin, this can be 1 of 3 different things.

In order to diagnosis which one of the problems is causing your problem, here's what you'll need to do.

Step 1. The first and easiest thing you should check is to make sure that that the brush speeed selector knob on the top of the machine is turned on, and is not in the off position. This may sound obvious, but I've had several cutsomers that have come in with this exact problem, only for the brushes to be turned off. Also make sure that the SteamVac's handle is reclined, and not in the upright position. There's a switch inside that shuts the brushes off when the SteamVac is moved into the upright position. If the brushes still are not spinning, move on to step 2.

Step 2. You'll need to remove the SpinScrub brushes from the SteamVac. Turn the machine upside down so that the brushes are facing upwards. There are four clips that hold these brushes in place. You'll need to remove the brushes from the machine by squeezing the four tabs while pulling upwards at the same time. The picture actually only shows the two tabs on the right hand side being squeezed (my left hand was holding the camera, lol), but the tabs on the left hand side are in the exact same location:

Step 3. Once the brushes have been removed, plug the machine in, make sure that the handle is reclined. Look in the SteamVac where the brushes used to be. You should see a hole that is square shaped where the brushes go into.

Turn the machine on, and look to see if this square shaped hole is spinning. If the hole is spinning, this indicates that either the brush block itself is bad, or there maybe something clogged (such as pet hair) in the brushes that's preventing them from spinning. If the square hole is not spinning, this indicates that your internal turbine brush gear has gone bad. Here's a link to a repair that I've written on how to replace the internal brush turbine gear if the square shaped, female receptacle hole is not spinning.

If the square shaped hole is spinning, here's what you may do to see if the brush block is just jammed up with debris, or if the brush block itself is bad and needs to be replaced:

Step 1. I'd say that 60% of the time that I see this problem, the main issue is that the brushes just need to be cleaned. If you have pets in the home, a lot of the time the pet hair will just be lodged inside the brushes, will prevent them from spinning. Use a pressurized water hose with spray nozzle is ideal) and spray each brush with water to dislodge any pet hair. You should be able to get these brushes spinning when you spray them. Spray each brush until the brushes are spinning pretty fast. Re-insert the brushes into the machine, and test to see if the cleaning has fixed your problem.

you should look at the brush stem that goes into the turbine inside the machine. This is the green pole pictured in middle of the brush block. Examine this pole to determine if the top of it has broken off. It should exactly how the picture shows it. Make sure that the plastic has not broken. If the pole has broken, you will simply need to replace the brush block.

It can really only be one of these three things that are causing your brushes not turn. Here are links to all of the products that possibly need to purchased (if the brushes weren't just clogged) on our website for the model that you listed this repair under, the Hoover F7425-900.

My brushes on my hoover steamvac all terrain carpet and hard floor cleaner will not spin what do i do

I am not sure if you have the F7222 or F7452 all terran. There is a plastic piece on the back of the block brush (spin scrubbers) these wear out or break. You may need to replace the block brush. You can find the parts below follow the link. Please don't forget to give positive feedback.

HOOVER DUAL STEAM CARPET CLEANER BRUSHES WILL NOT SPIN....MOTOR SOUNDS STRONG...

There are three things to check:

Is the switch on the hood for brush speed set to full, or may it be set to OFF?

Remove the brush block from under the unit by pulling it down and unlatch each side. Is there a 1/4 inch square drive pin on one brush, about two inches long? It connects the brush to the drive mechanism.

Lastly, the drive mechanism in the base may be bound-up, and not spinning. If so, the unit needs disassembled to repair or replace.

Hoover all terrain dual v spin and scrub 12 amps

All of the hoover cleaners use air to spin the brushes the air intake is probably clogged. There is a Little clear window on the top of the machine pull that off and underneath is a little screen clean that out and that should fix your problem.
