Question about Dishwashers

1 Answer

Notmstarting or stopping possible cycling issue

I have a Maytag Dishwasher model MDB5100AWW
It will start to wash but will not cycle through and will not turn off unless I turn it off. I then need to drain it and it will do this but it will not stop trying to drain, thus I need to turn this function off as well.
When it is not running the motor will hum about every 20 minutes for about 15 seconds and then stop. The motor itself will get hot to the touch during this action

Is there any way for me to test the board before I run out and try to buy a new one.
I have noticed that on many makes and models of dishwashers there is normally some way to reset the machine by a combination of button pushing. Is there some where that I can get this information to try this first.

I only have the operation and installation manuals, there is no service manual that I have been able to locate on the net anywhere.

I will go back to the dealer and see if they will sell me one or supply me with the reset info.
I will also get a quote for a new board

Scroll about half way down the page, in the left column, under Maytag products, select the Maytag / Jenn Air / Jet Clean II "Tall Tub" Dishwasher repair manual... it covers your model dishwasher..

It includes a troubleshooting guide as well repairing instructions

Best wishes on your project.

Dishes not coming out clean

Hello

There are some things you can try, however, if your Maytag dishwasher is not getting your dishes as clean as you would like. Maytag recommends several processes for fixing this issue with your dishwasher.

Do not run your Maytag dishwasher while hot water is being used in other parts of your home, such as washing clothes or showering. Hot water is needed for your Maytag dishwasher to properly clean dishes.

Run water in the sink in your kitchen until it gets very hot. Then, turn on your Maytag dishwasher. This will ensure that the water cleaning your dishes is the hottest possible temperature.

Clean your Maytag dishwasher to improve the cleaning results for dishes. Run your dishwasher on a short wash cycle and wait for it to fill up with water. Stop the cycle and add about 1/3 of a cup of rust remover to the dishwasher and finish the cycle. Run your Maytag dishwasher through one normal cycle with regular detergent to finish the cleaning process.

Check your detergent. Old detergent or those that have been exposed to moisture can be clumpy. This detergent will not clean your dishes as well when loaded into your Maytag dishwasher. Purchase fresh detergent.

Use extra detergent when washing dishes that have a lot of built-up grease or food particles. The extra amount of detergent is needed to get your dishes clean. Choose a long cleaning cycle to clean these dishes.

Fill your Maytag dishwasher properly. Dishes should not be stacked on top of each other or excessively crammed into your dishwasher. This will keep the dishwasher from adequately cleaning all areas of your dishes and from rinsing them thoroughly.

Water is staying in the bottom

Water staying in bottom is not a problem unless the dishwasher base is full of it and covers the wash arm.

This means the drain cycle is not working or dishwasher is shutting off before drain cycle.

Try to clean the filters at the base and check drain in kitchen sink side is clear.

Need the model number in case you want more specific instructions.

Model MDB5100AWW, sn 10493315YK. Dishes not coming clean, stuck on food, and cloudy. We have installed new Jet Dry, and operated unit in rinse cycle with added vinigar about 4 times with no luck on...

The problem is hard water. www.dishwasherfilter.com has a product to solve this problem once and for all. It filters the water going into your dishwasher and removes the hard minerals that leave those spots. It is very affordable and even has a money back guarantee. You will love the way your dishes look with this product.

Dishes not clean

It MIGHT be a bad "impeller". This is a little propeller-like device that chops up chunks of food and in some cases performs part of the pumping action of the water. Not an expensive part, but sometimes a pain to replace.
