If you Delete all the Information on the hardrive nothing will go wrong besides the fact that all your information will get lost.Format the hardrive but only if you are sure you are comfortable with losing the infromation that is on it.

With the drive connected to your computer, Open up My Computer, located the drive you want to wipe, right click on it and select Format, you can do a quick format. This will remove all data from the drive so be sure you do not want any data that is on it. This will also remove the WD files that came on the drive as well. If you need these files just copy them to your local disk temporally format the drive and then move them back.

Hi , I just copied my hard drives to my new Passport Essentials SE using the WD Smartware software, I do not like I have to manually switch between my two internal hard drives to back up so I would like to...

As far as I remember WD just copies the software into the PassPort drives and you don't have to install anything you can just run the software from the drive. If that is still the case then first take a backup of that software (basically copy that software folder to some place in your internal drives) then format the drive (make sure you select NTFS as the file system for the drive when formatting).
Formatting will erase all the files in the drive so make sure you have backup of you personal files also.
Formatting also resets the drive back to factory setting (if you want the WD software back then just copy it from the backup to the PassPort drive).

Western Digitial Passport Sync Software

WARNING: Do not think that theyourWD Passport, using the WD Sync software, is a backup drive; it is NOT !

As per the documentation with this device:
"synchronization software is intended to synchronize the data from a computer to the drive (WD Passport) and SHOULD NOT be used as backup software. To use this software properly, we advise that you do not wipe or
erase the data from the internal hard drive (computer) and resynchronize, as this will cause the data that WD Sync stored to the Passport to be deleted."

This is why you are hearing so many people saying that they are deleting the WD Sync software, reformatting, and using the WC Passport as a true backup drive where you can actually see the files that you are backing up, rather
than a bunch of unrecognizable sync files that likely don't have all the files that you thought you "backed up".

My computer has 2 drives (C and D). My WD Passport will recognize and backup the C drive, but it won't backup the D drive. It doesn't split the files into pictures/video/etc like it does with the C, and...

Well, you don't have to use WD's software...you can better backup software like Acronis..you can back any files you want, or, the whole computer with installed programs, operating system and all. Are you using WD software, or windows? You can just select the files you want to copy from the drive in Windows, and just copy them to the drive, you don't have to use WD software.

Help to backup full computer programs & docs with WD Passport 160

Try going to the "Computer" icon and look for the external drive. Open the ext. drive folder and look for the InstallSeagateManager icon, the Application one. Double-click on it and it will allow you to install the software to do a backup on your new computer. First thing you should see is the Language Selection screen. I think you can take it from there!

WD passport 320GB Can I use it as storage, not backup?

You can use it as storage if you would like. You can also delete files once they are put on the passport. When it is connected to the computer open my computer and it will be listed there. You can use it as storage by copying files into this way rather than syncing it. Syncing it could cause you to lose files.

I don't know how to check the files on my WD passport. I'm looking just for pictures and itunes. Can you tell me how this is done?

you plug the drive into a usb port.... if it doesn't automatically pop up to allow you to access the drive... go to my computer (or computer on vista) and go in there... it should appear as another drive. double click and you are in the drive.
