Ipod Mini - Disk Error "cannot be read from or written to"

Ipod Mini, using XP OS, I have changed the Mini USB drive to lttr "I" so it does not confuse with the other USB port with XP.

Attempted to restore Ipod to original, and reupload all music. Ipod successfully re-uploads approx 160 songs and then gives this error:

I Tunes Error: Attempting to copy to the disk "Robin's Ipod". The disk could not be read from or written to.

    Still having problems. I did a full reformat via explorer, then system restore via Itunes and attempting to sync music. Got only about 160+ songs synced and Itunes offered this error now:



    "Cannot be synced. The required file cannot be found"



    What now??

    I have 30GB and about 466 of over 1300 songs, 5 games, and none of the 13 movies, will load. I have restored and reloaded software. I will try suggestion, can't really hurt it any more than it is, and then I'll let everyone know. thanks for your help in advance! Here goes nothin!

You need to format, full format, use windows explorer, right click on ipod then format, not quick, then load itunes, should give you the option to restore, do this, then should automatically sync music as long as you don't tick the manual manage box.

Ipod will not restore


according to the apple website here is some help with the solution.
this is taken straight from apple.

Symptoms When restoring or updating an iPod in iTunes 7 or later, you may see a dialog reporting "An unknown error has occurred" followed by the error number 1415, 1417, 1418, 1428, 1429, 1430, 1436 or 1439.

Resolution If you are experiencing these errors, begin by updating to the latest version of iTunes. When you have the current version of iTunes, try the following:

  • Restart your computer and then attempt to restore your iPod.
  • Disable or Enable Disk Use on your iPod and then attempt to restore.

Why does my iPod appears on my computer but not in iTunes?


Maybe radical but this worked for me.
My computer-select ipod,Right click and format disc (fat 32)
Once refomatted plug in to computer and start Itunes.
Click on Restore to factory settings, At the end of that you will need to plug it briefly into an ac outlet.
Reconnect ti computer and start Itunes.
Sync with library.
This worked for me after trying everything else I could fine failed.

My error when I ran diagnostics said "one or more sync tests failed."
