One question...How do you get into the thing? It has 3-prong screws! Where do you find the screwdriver for that??? I have never seen one of those!

  • WKatch Feb 05, 2008

I am sorry, I am new, and I did not realize that was a bad rating, I thought I was just saying, "Thanks for trying!" As in I don't know if that will fix it or not, but one way or the other, thanks for trying. I am so sorry, I really didn't mean to give you a bad rating, is there a way to fix that? I truly appreciate your help. I also found a tri-bit screwdriver, and ordered it, apparently that is how you get into it. REALLY, thank you so much for trying to help, that is truly all I meant! Thank you

I think I fixed the rating, I hope so. Looks like all of us new ladies need to read before we rate! I thought if I clicked on it, it would tell me what it meant, but it rated instead! Again, I hope you accept my apologies!

No.. most likely the ribbon cable that connects the lcd screen to the rest of the ds has been damaged or knocked loose. Or the circuit board somewhere has been cracked or damaged, affecting the circuitry that sends a signal to the lcd screen.

Is it under warranty? You can maybe send it back to Ninendo for repair. Or open it and attempt to repair it yourself. Otherewise I'm afraid the DS is just broken...

Why did you rate this "thanks for trying"? Occasionally the answer to your question is "no that isn't possible". And that doesn't mean the answer deserves a bad rating.

That's a real good way to motivate me to not bother with your question. I do know what you can do about the screws, and how to open the device without damaging it, but why should I bother to tell you?

Next time, ask for more information and wait for an answer before you lock the rating in.

My son's ds won't turn on

Was the DS dropped? Sounds like the top screen ribbon has become disconnected from the motherboard, or is broke. You may have to replace the top lcd screen.

Nintendo DS lite power light comes on but both screens stay dark?

When you boot the Nintendo DS you can change the illumination settings in the main menu.
One the main menu, you will find a sunny symbol in the lower left corner of the screen. Click on that and you should be able to change the level of illumination. If you are also wondering if you can change the brightness during game play, you can't. Games such as Mario 64 DS come with support for brightness change but otherwise you have to do it before game play.

Nicham,

If I understand it correctly, the screens are still dark.
Small question....was it dropped on the floor?

Nintendo DS lite - dropped

Might be worth taking it into a phone repair shop to see if they can replace the LCD screen. (yes, a phone repair shop - a lot of them do portable console screens too!) If they can't do it, it's probably unfixable realistically.
