Question about HP Pavilion dv4000 Notebook

1 Answer

Hi, after i was looking at some web pages, the cursor on my laptop is acting crazy and not really doing what i want it to do. It either moves all over or doesn't move at all. I am not using a external mouse, this is the mouse that comes with the laptop. I am afraid my computer might have caught a virus or something. Please let me know what you think it is.

It could very well be a bug of some sort. Do you have any antivirus on your system? If not may I suggest Grisoft AVG, they have a free version, but its only antivirus. You can try Search and Destroy for spyware. But I would recommend getting and running Combo Fix first. These are all free softwares, and I hope they help solve your problem

My screen on my laptop flickers sometimes so bad you can't use it and my cursor goes crazy and i have to shut down for a while . When it flicker it kind of acts when a cell phone or something is too close...

I had the same problem before (actually, twice) and it was the LCD - 'twas broken. So I returned it to the company and they replaced it (twice). Thanks that it was still covered by its warranty, I didn't pay even a single cent. You really can't use it well if the screen flickers but if you can not return it right now (hope it's covered by warranty), you just adjust the light of the screen by pressing FN and F9 (for light). That way, you can use it but expect that it will turn white afterwards and so you can't see the cursor again. It's only your broken LCD that needs to be replaced. Hope this helps... If you've got more questions, just feel free to ask more questions here, thanks! tc :)

Fan problems: We have Xseries 236 . When running with windows 2003 server the fans are running on high speed. The ambient temperature is about 25 degrees celcius (70 degrees Fahrenheit). The LEDs on the...

Since more then one fan is going crazy after 5 minutes, try these things first:

Make sure the server has enough space where air can ventilate properly. Also make sure there is no dust or dirt sitting on top of the fans cause lack of air ventilation can make the fans start acting up. Also make sure the room is staying nice and cool so that way cool air is being ventilated thru the server.

If you have done these things and your server is still acting up then your motherboard is starting to go bad cause that means the motherboard is having trouble regulating the voltages going thru it and thats why the fans are running really crazy the way they do.

If its just one fan I would say replace the one fan but since both are acting up, I doubt that both fans would go bad at the same time.

Mouse cursor moving by itself

In windows xp go into start menu, then into control panel then click on appearance and themes, then move your mouse over to mouse pointers click on it , uncheck "enhance pointer precision, and click apply, that will stop the mouse from acting crazy, this will work with dell mouse pointers and most.
