SB-800 makes strange noise and over exposes image when it does work

The flash has settings you will have to read your manual
the camera does the exposers not the flash
set your cameras appuatue to a high number and speed fast then shoot if you knew how to use your camera you would know the flash is uesd for filling in shadows and imitating the sun which is bright. Good luck

Contrast really dark but seems to improve after the tv has been on several hours

Hi:
You may have a problem with the inverters in the unit, they are responsible for lighting up the back panel. Check or have checked the power supply voltage to the inverters, should be around 18-24 volts DC. Also leaky capacitors on the power supply will cause this issue as well as leaky or puffy capacitors on the inverter.

My camera started taking very bright pictures after more than two years of taking perfect pictures nothing has been changed on the camera setting and the blue light around the ok button is blinking now i...

More than likely the Iris that covers the CCD - just like in your eyes, is stuck open and cannot adjust to regulate the light to the CCD. Therefore you're getting bright pictures. The CCD is the component that captures the image and then converts it to an electrical signal to the processor or brain. The Iris getting stuck is usually caused by excessive moisture in the camera. The beach, where the humidity is high, will cause the iris to stick. Try leaving it in a dry storage for a few days to dry. Otherwise you'll need to take it in for repair.

My sister took my camera out with her to a convention, then when I was about to take a picture last night, the screen was strongly tinted bright pink and when I take a picture, it's tinted green and pink....

If the camera was exposed to very bright light it is possible to have the CCD/imager damaged , There can be a resetting, remove battery off for few hours and set.
If the fault stays it will be better to seek an opinion than to open the camera.

You may have 1 of two problems.

1) Convergence Chips are failing - Using your original remote goto the "convergence" screen.

Try to adjust the red - UP - DOWN - LEFT - RIGHT

Next try to adjust the blue - UP - DOWN - LEFT - RIGHT

If you can move both colors in all directions you do not have a convergence issue.

If you can't move one or more colors in one or more directions the convergence chips are defective and need to be replaced.

If your convergence chips test out ok the most likely problem is......

2) CRT Coolant is cloudy  - The bright outline you described is one common symptom. Other symptoms include dull images, red or orange tint, halo around images.

If you goto the site www.TvRepairKits.com - and click on "Tips" - you will find more detailed instructions on how to check the convergence.

Colorimetre HCFR software
AVC HD 709 calibration disk
Spyder2 colorimeter (I know most prefer the Eye-One meters, but the Spyder2 was available from my job at no cost)

Here are the settings:

PS3 Blu-Ray player

Output Format (HDMI): Y Pb/Cb Pr/Cr (important!!! NOT RGB output)
BD 1080p 24hz Output (HDMI): On (this TV can reproduce video at 48hz for accurate 2:2 pulldown)
Y Pb/Cb Pr/Cr Super White (HDMI): On (not sure if this matters)

Take time to get used to the settings, you may think the screen looks dull at first. The truth is most people have way too much contrast on their TVs.
These settings will also work for Cable or Dish hookups, in which case you may change the Noise Reduction option to Medium to reduce signal noise.

no its not the flash, it is the CCD. The replacement of the CCD will solve the problem.
