Question about LG GCE 8481B CD-RW Burner

Optiarc DVD RW AD-5170A ATA not writing DVDs

When I try to write a movie to a x16 maxell DVD-R blank disc, using Nero 7 set to 'fit to disc', I get an error message saying 'insufficient space on disc'. The 1st 3 diss from a pack of 25 wrote ok, but when I inserted the 4th disc I got the error message. I tried several discs from the same pack and got same eror each time. I then tried using Windows Vista DVD maker but it failed again.

I then tried writing the same movie to disc using my HP Laptop and also got the same error.

Finally I used one of these discs in my Sony DVD Recorder, to record a TV program and the disc worked fine.

Any idea what the problem could be?

The original file was a 699Mb .avi with a running time of

    1h 48m 51s.

I think the problem lies with the .avi file as I tried writing a different .avi file of a similar size and that worked perfectly. I am now stuck with an .avi file that I can't write to DVD. I'll try downloading the file again and see if it works then, otherwise I'll have to give up on it, but it was part of a 10 part fishing series that I wanted to watch on my TV.

    Thanks for your speedy answer.

I was using Nero 7, when I add the avi file it converts it, makes an image then tries to write to DVD. I will try converting the file myself first, maybe that will work - worth a try. Thanks for your help.

Unable to push Sony Optiarc AD-7585H to write at 1x

You're not "pushing" with 1x speed, that's the slowest speed at which a burner will burn at. You can change the write speed in the burning software settings.

I can't write DVD with my Pioneer DVR-107D DVD±RW

What brand of media are you using?

You are burning at 2x because that is the highest that this drive supports.

You would also want to instruct Nero to Verify by ticking the check box and either finalize disc or make it mulitsession, if your burner supports multisession DVDs

Check that the writable DVDs you are using are compatible (+/-) with your Sony DVD-RAM.
Go to Windows Explorer and check to see if the Sony drive is visible. It may not be connected or the Jumper switch may be set incorrectly.
Check you have drivers installed, take a look in Hardware manager.
Sometimes, it's a little difficult to copy CDs and DVDs when you have more than one burning suite installed - for some reason, they 'just don't get along'. Try uninstalling any suites other than Nero.
Or it may just be that your Sony CD-RW drive is just that, and your DVD-RW drive is just that. So it wouldn't be possible to write DVDs on the CD-RW and CDs on the DVD-RW? Though I would assume Nero would detect that and use your hard-drive as temporary storage.
In Nero SmartStart, have you selected the CD or DVD tab to correspond to the project you're burning?
