Specific PDF Document/Specific Print Area Black Toner Not Fusing And Flakes Off

Mac OS X 10.4.11/Adobe Acrobat or Preview/Xerox Phaser 7300
I have a client that has a multipage PDF document that has problems printing a specific page where by on the physical printed document this page has certain areas where black toner is thickly applied and is not fusing correctly and flakes off rather than brushes off. The most notable area of the document is a area of white text within a solid black box. The toner within the black box is flaking off and the white text is embossed to touch. The original document was designed in Adobe InDesign CS2 Mac and the document I am having the problem with is a PDF generated from the original InDesign document. I have tried printing the document another Mac and also updated the original Mac with the latest driver/PPD's and ColorSync profiles. I have converted the PDF into a Jpeg using Photoshop and when this is printed the physical printout is fine and does not display any flaking toner or text embossing. The Jpeg conversion is not a suitable work-around as type does not look as crisp. The problem appears to be specific to this document, all other documents print fine, and this does not lead me to believe there is a physical problem with the actual Phaser 7300. Can anyone suggest anything?

BELOW IS A SNIPPET OF TEXT FROM THE ORIGINAL PDF DOCUMENT.

BELOW IS A CAMERA PHONE IMAGE OF THE PHYSICAL PRINTED TEXT. ALL OF THE WHITE AREA BEHIND THE TEXT OUTLINES IS WHERE THE TONER FLAKED OFF. THE TEXT OUTLINES FEEL EMBOSSED TO TOUCH.

    ANY IDEAS?

I see exactly where you are coming from but I still do not think it is a problem with the fuser. You can print any other document and it is fine. I can generate a black box with white text in InDesign, print it from InDesign or pdf it and print that and it prints fine. The problem is with one page within a specific multipage pdf document. I think it may be a colour registration problem. It could be that it is using all 4 colours to achieve black. - Link: http://groups.google.com/group/comp.sys....

Without a doubt you have a problem with the fuser.
What that is caused from is buildup over time of ink on the heat roller. The teflon coating wears some and the ink sticks to the aluminum instead of pealing off onto the paper.
You then do not get enough heat or perssure to "fuse" the image into the paper.
Replacine the fuser will correct the problem.

When the red light blinks on the printer what does it indicate-model-xerox phaser printer 6110

The blinking toner cartridge is low. Order a new toner cartridge. You can temporarily improve print quality by redistributing the toner. See "Redistributing Toner" on page 5.2

Erratic black fusing

I'm not real sure about how the software separates the colors, but I believe there's a way to choose a color as all colors combined to make black, or simple black.

I'm not sure if I'm making any sense, but if the printer is using all the colors to layer up and make black, then it would be a pretty thick coating and that might cause it to flake off.

I have a Xerox phaser 7300 that keeps telling me to install or reseat the black cartridge

It is slightly unusual for it to be the black toner cartridge (usually cyan or magenta) but this issue is quite common on the 7300. You can find a lot of information about this here.

The "Reseat Toner Cartridge" message keeps appearing, if I open and close the lid the message goes away and it seems to print normally.

There is a firmware issue that causes that problem.
You can download it from the Xerox.com site and upgrade your machine. The instructions on doing that upgrade are also on the site.
Go to Xerox.com. Then click Suport and Drivers, then enter 7300, then to drivers and downloads and scroll down to the firmware update.

PDF documents do not print completely on my Xerox Phaser 8500

I am having the same problem. Sometimes my Xerox Phaser 8500 prints a PDF or web page fine, and other times I get pages and pages of what looks like PostScript code. I thought I had installed the most recent printer drivers, We are using primarily Macs with OS 10.4 or 10.5. One recent change is that we connected the printer to an Airport Express using a USB cable, which is sweet when it works correctly....any ideas???

Phaser 3200 only printing code, not actual document

Try downloading and installing a PCL language driver from the Xerox.com site for the phaser 3200. It looks like that could be a PostScript issue. Installing the right driver is very important anyway. If that does not help, try and copy paste the document in a new document and save first as the old document could be corrupted. If this does not help either lemme know and I think of something else.

Offending command: get

Offending Command: get. Graphics format in pdf document is not handled:
If you are the creator/owner of pdf document then edit pdf document and check Imported graphics.
If not try updating acrobat reader to last version.
If none of the above works, then only solution is to print document from different computer/printer.
