Set top box and remote control

I have a scientific atlanta explorer 8300hdc set top box that comes standard with the universal electronics remote control 1056b01. the set top box will not respond to the remote control. the box is good because i can select guide and change channels. please help. OK, I thought I was losing my mind until I read this. I hooked up my SA Explorer 8300HDC and could not get the remote to work when the TV was on. Come to find out it doesn't have to do with power to the TV, but the screen, when the screen is on, the remote will not function on the cable box. I also found that turned the cable box to angle away from the TV, while the TV is on will allow the remote to work. There must be some type of interference between the LCD screen being on and the remote. Please help.

I have the identical problem. When I use different DVRs I still have this issue. I just switched to DISH and it still occurs. As mentioned, angling the DVR unit helps to mitigate the effects of the LCD.

I was able to solve the issue I had with the remote not functioning with my LCD TV. The problem turns out to be the IR that the TV emits causes the remote not to function. I did a little research to discover the fix was a simple as a piece of tape. Yes, that is right a piece of tape!!! Simply putting a small piece of tape over the IR eye of the cable box, acts like a filter and allows the remote to still work, but blocks the IR emitted from the TV. Since the fix, I have had Comcast at my house on another issue, and mentioned the problem to (2) techs that were there, they had never come across the problem, which did not surprise me, but I did offer them my solution. Just for the record the IR eye on the cable box is to the left of the time/channel digits, by using a flashlight you can see the small red circle, and by using a small piece of black electrical tape over the IR eye it fixed my issue and doesn't show.

Have the same problem with LCD 42LG2000 and a motorola set-top box (VIP1920). I would rather prefer tech support solves problem instead of gluing some tape... Sent emails to Motorola and LG now I'm waiting for some answers...

A box is displayed in the center of screen that reads "The update includes improved remote performance and functionality" with a "start setup" button but you cant select start. Also, the remote lights will not go off and the remote doesnt work at all. It will not even turn the tv off.

My remote wasn't working until I programmed it to work with itself ... (how odd it wasn't done already).

"CBL" button and ""OK/SEL" held down simulataneously for 3 seconds ... then "001" for the Scientific Atlanta. If the unit turns off, you're in business.

My DISH DVR unit has a UHF antenna to work with the 2nd TV in another room. When I asked DISH tech support if this could be used to also support the remote of the primary tv (the LCD), they said they have a UHF kit for $19. I bought the kit, and now both my remotes (TV1 and TV2) are UHF and work perfectly.

The best thing to do is to move the receivers or TVs to a location that separates them with a greater distance.

Just bought a vizio e502ar 50" LCD. I programmed it with the scientific atlanta remote control UR5L-8700L. For some reason it will control de TV perfectly but stops controling the cable box. If I turn

I hate to say it but use two remotes--original for the Vizio and the box remote for the box---some kind of conflict here---you can also try to unplug things from power for while and repower to see if a reboot will help or not.

I can't turn on closed captioning on Hitachi with Comcast scientific atlanta explorer 2200 cable box. Any words of wisdom?

Both the set and the box used should have the closed caption feature.

If box is in line to rear audio/video jacks you will have to engage the CC from the box.

I doubt it will work if hooked that way from within the box---go to menu and in CC area in either set or box select CC1 which is the most common one used.

The code in the scietific atlanta manual will not program my new lg flat screen. code 1005 does not work. Any suggestions

it takes some time for the codes for new tvs to be set by manufacturers if they do it at all

you should try to check scientific atlanta site for newest codes or check with LG to see if an old code will give you some control functions

there is a good chance it will never work and you are better off programming LG remote to control scientific atlanta box

good luck

Cable box remote doesn't work when tv is turned on.

I am having this same problem with our Mitsubishi LCD Flat Panel TV, Model LT-46246 ans our Scientific Atlanta remote cable box, same model as yours. We cannot use the remote at all to change the channel. I called Mitsubishi and they said they have never heard of this. I find this incredibly hard to believe. Time Warner, our cable provider says that it is not the box because it works when not hooked up to the TV. What a pain. I would love to hear if anyone else is having this problem or has a fix for it.
