Question about Estate TGDX640JQ Gas Dryer

3 Answers

No heat I have an Estate TGDX640JQ Gas Dryer (Estate-Whirlpool). I noticed yesterday that the dryer was still running 2 hours later than when I turned it on. The timer didn't move as it usually does and I noticed there was no heat in which to dry the clothes, although the dryer does run and tumbles the clothing. This morning, I turned it on for a few seconds and it seemed to initially have heat, but lasted for less than a minute. Do you have any suggestions and, if so, is this worth repairing?

I wanted to clarify that the timer does move to set it on an appropriate setting but does not move along with the set amount of time. Still no heat.

Is the "over" the small white square shaped box at the bottom to the left side? That is all I see and wasn't sure how to pull it off. I will try this and let you know how it works out. Thanks so much.

If the cover the small white square shaped piece at the left side of dryer or do you mean pull the whole cover off. There is nothing to pull off, except a small approx 1" X 1" square shaped button that sticks out further than the whole entire dryer.

What I learned is that the dryer needed a new fuse. The service man took off the back panel to reach any components and replaced the fuse. The dryer now works.

What I learned is that the fuse needed to be replaced on the dryer. The back had to be opened in order to reach any elements, but the service man replaced the fuse and my dryer now works again.

Thanks for the suggestions.

Mcwilliams if you pull the over off the front of the dryer at the bottom you can see the gas burner assy. Put the dryer on time dry and start the dryer, you should see a glow from the ignitor, then hear a click, then the heat come on. In the auto dry mode, the timer advances along with the dryness level. No heat, No timer advancing. If you don't see a glow, there should be a thermosat on the heater can, see if it is tripped. If so if it is resetable, reset then try again. You may have a bad ignitor.

No that won't show you anything. Remove the back of the dryer to see the heater. Normally on Gas dryers it is required to have a front access on it.

My estate dryer is not producing heat throughout the entire dry cycle. It does initially, but not all the time.Saw heating element glow and flame up shortly after , but will not stay on and dryer will run...

Often a dryer heating element burns out, but doesn't trip the circuit breaker or blow a fuse. The heating element is simply a long coil of special wire. You can check it for continuity with an ohm meter. No continuity means the element is bad and you need to replace it--electric heating elements aren't repairable. On many dryers, there's a thermal fuse mounted to the exhaust duct inside the back cover panel. The fuse--which is about an inch long--is usually embedded in black resin and mounted in a white plastic housing. If the fuse has blown, you need to replace it. (You can't re-set it.)
