I have a symbol 9090 scanner and when the batteris goes dead, it keeps loosing all the settings. I have exported the profile like I was told to do, but it still looses the settings. I am at a loss as to what to do. I have 17 of them that I am having to reset everyday.

Hello rcatron. I think I can help hammer-out your issue. The MC9090 has a backup battery similar to a BIOS battery on a PC motherboard. What this does is holds a constant charge so that the unit's settings are always active and ready to be recalled when it starts up. Generally speaking: if the settings aren't coming back after you reset the unit, it would mean that the backup battery has lost it's charge and with that the ability to hold the configuration (cache/flash) data. However, since all of your units are doing this (correct?) I highly doubt that all of their backup batteries have gone belly-up simultaneously. There a couple causes that immediately come to mind.

  1. The backup battery draws it's charge from the main battery or power source just like a BIOS on a PC draws it's power from the power-supply even when the computer is "off". So, if you take the batteries out (maybe to charge them?) overnight or for extended periods of time, this would be your problem. If so, simply leave the batteries in the units or place them in the cradle whilst not using them for more than 5 hours or so.
  2. When you say you are losing all the settings, are you referring to the general operating system settings (wireless network, backlight, and things like that)? Or are you talking about a custom application that you use for your inventory control? If it's the latter, then I recommend you make a call to your software provider and ensure that the settings are being properly saved and more importantly: in the right place. This could be an issue.
If neither of these apply, then please feel free to send me a message or an email and I will be happy to help you troubleshoot further. I hope this helps. Good luck!

Mc9060 loosing wireless profile after a cold boot or removing the battery then i have to reconfigure it everytime

This is a very common problem with this scanner, especially if its running Windows CE rather than Pocket PC or Windows Mobile.
Every time the terminal cold boots (has been left a significant time without the main battery and backup battery is depleted) it will rebuild any configurations from reg files saved within the Application folder on the device.
To save the wireless settings the profile (and options for peace of mind) need to be save/exported. This is done by hitting the wireless icon located in eth taskbar on the right hand side, from the menu select options. This pops up a box which contains a drop down box, from this select "export" then you can export profiles and options. Each time you will be prompted to save, use default and the relevant reg file will be saved to the Application folder and hence the settings will now persist through an old boot.

How do I get Symbol / Motorola MC9090 wireless settings to be

This is an old post but I'll give my solution anyway!

I anticipate that you're not exporting the connections:
Open the Wireless Menu icon on the task bar (Close "Manage Profiles" if it is open, select "options".

Select from the drop down "Regulatory" and select your country of operation (e.g USA), de-select "Enable 802.11 d", click Save.

Select from the drop down "Export", click "Export Options", click OK top right, click "Export All Profiles", click OK top right.

Now if a cold boot is performed the device will retain the added network profiles.

Cheers!

The internal battery has failed on several of my MC9060 and 9090-g barcode scanners. How can I hard code the SSID and WEP key into the system so it never looses it?

When you have set up your wireless on your MC9090 you go to option from the radio Icon at the bottom right, and save and export the setting this is saved as a reg file. so everytime the MC is cold booted your settings are okay.

Keeps dropping from wireless network. other laptops connected to the same network are not dropping intermittently like the symbol guns are doing

Try chaging the Power Options to CAM.

It reduces battery life, but ensures the radio is always on.

Edit your wireless profile and on Battery Usage select CAM. Finish to save.

Export profile to ensure it persists through a cold boot.

When battery goes dead, does not save wireless LAN settings

When you set the wireless profile you set the SSID, WEP, IP etc. Which I'm sure you already know. Now you want to make them persist through either a cold boot or when the terminal has been left without a battery for a substantial amount of time.

This can be done 2 ways. When the profile has been set up highlight it by holding down the stylus on it and from the menu select export. This saves the registry key to the Application folder; a folder which persist through a cold boot. When it does cold boot it takes all the registry keys from the Application folder and builds 1 complete key and thus details of the wireless profile are imported.

The other way is to close the WLAN profile and selection options, from the pull down menu select export and save all profiles. Has a lightly different registry key setting. The bonus about this is if you pull note the registry key file name you can then browse for the key using active sync and copy it to a host PC. You can then copy this key to any other device and cold boot and hey presto your wireless profile appears. You would of course need to change a static IP and export the profile again to overwrite the existing one. If you didn’t export again you would get duplicate IP’s on the network.

TIP: Always take a not of terminals MAC address and match the serial numbers or specific ID’s. If you do ever get duplicate IP’s you can trace the offending device using the MAC address and the list you create.

Symbol 9090 G

Have you tried a cold boot?

Remove battery half way, press and release trigger and power button at the same time and put the battery back.

If this doesn't do it, try the same but keep the trigger pressed when you put the battery back for about 10 seconds.

Failing all this, the gun is dead.
