Happygirl, your probably not gonna be so happy now, but if the scanner took a lightning hit then some of the critical parts(ic chips) have been hit and it would cost more to get the scanner up and running than another good used one would cost. I just sold a nice 100 channel on e-bay for $49.00. This is just my opinion, as a lightning strike has a few hundred thousand volts running around in there. Hope this helps,, Mechanic

Won't stop scanning

L16 Disc coil needs adjustment, Audio is slightly off, and improper noise to DC squelch level detect used to stop scan on active channel. Set to an on freq signal like a NOAA weather channel, and useing a non-metallic tool, adjust to best sounding audio, probably less than a half turn either direction. An on freq signal moduated by 1000hertz, connect scope to speaker and adjust for highest undistorted recovered audio would be better if you could.

Programin the codes in a bc60xlt bearcat scanner

I am not familar with that model scanner but all the uniden radios I have used have direct freq entry......Hit manual button, select what channel you wish to enter it in, hit manual again. Enter the freq desired, then hit enter. That should enter the freq in that channel space. Hit enter again to go to the next channel for programming. Hope this helps.

Programing for uniden bearcat scanner bc 144xl

danval, I looked up a pic of your scanner and it is pretty straightforward. If it is the 16 channel I was looking at, here is the step by step programming.
1- Push manual button to go to the channel you want to start programming.
2- Enter the freq number in.
3- Push the E button to enter it in the memory.
4- To review what you programmed, push the Review button.
5- Use manual button to step to next channel and start over from #2
That should get you started with the scanning hobby.
The scanner has a Priority button that when activated will stop scanning and go immediatly to the priority channel if someone keys their mic.
If you need freq's (or more of) for your area, go here and click on your state and county and it'll give you a complete listing.

Programing scanner

Hi tina33, I have an 860 scanner, and this is how I do it. If there is no freq's in there yet, start on channel 1 and punch in the freq- hit E and it will enter it into the first channel. Hit manual to go to ch 2 and repeat. If you need freq's for your area, go here and search out your state and county and it'll give you a list of freq's for your county. You do not have to add the weather channels as their in there already, just hit the weather button. I use an external antenna on mine as it extends the range and allows me to pick up the cars as well.

If you need a book for your scanner, you can get one here, just print it out.

HI again, the 248 is only a 50 channel, do you need this info for the 860? If so, I answered in your other post, but here it is again.

Trouble programming

Part of this answer depends on whether your area is still running the standard broadcast radios or the "newer" trunk tracking style. The two are not compatible. If they are still standard, then press the E button to enter the program mode. Enter the desired freq. and hit the E button will enter the freq into memory. Tap manual to step to the next channel and repeat the steps to keep programming. Open the squelch to hear static then close just a little to quiet the noise and it should lock on and talk to you. Good luck with it,,and happy hunting. Mechanic
