update the firmware of the unit on garmins website www.garmin.com
I have seen this fix that problem multiple times. If you already have the current version reload it. If that all fails then its probably something physically wrong with it and needs to be sent in for repairs.
My garmin will idle after turning it on "aquiring satelites", after awhile it will give me the white screen "trouble tracking satelites, are you indoors now?" answer "no"when the garmin asks you if you are in a particular state answer "no". It works for me everytime, don't know why, just that it works to lie sometimes.
It sounds like you need to do a master reset. Here's how..
To reset the unit you will need to press the bottom right hand corner of your screen and hold in (relatively firmly) and then press and hold POWER, make sure you release the power button when the unit turns on and a message will appear asking if you wish to clear all user data - select YES to this.
This will completely wipe all data on your unit including almanac data (satellite information). Your unit would then need at least 45 minutes with clear view of the sky to update the almanac and re-acquire a GPS fix which will show your current position.
This should fix the problem because it will be the way it was out of the box. When you turn it back on it will scan for it's exact location.
Good luck! I hope you have purchased a new unit, I can't imagine living without one now :-)
download the usb driver from the website. Then go to your device manager (rightclick "my computer" and click on properties. then click on device manager) Once there, see if there is a yellow exclamation point next to the garmin slot. If there is, right click it and choose update driver. Then follow the prompts to locate the new driver. This shou;d solve the problem.
