Hi,
I am having a Samsung DVD writer (Tsstcorp cd/dvdW sh-w162z.OEM Code TS), bought a year back. It was working fine, but yesterday I was burninga DVD and got an error in the middle. And the burn process stopped. Since then thedrive is not reading any disk (CD / DVD). Whenever I put any disk and close thedrive, the light blinks for 4-5 times and then nothing.
As such the BIOS and windows (XP) both are recognizing thedrive. I have removed the drive using device manager and installed it back,changed the jumper settings but to no avail.
I am having another Samsung CD writer on the machine whichis working fine.
Can you please tell what can be the reason.

- My NEC 1100 also does not want to ' see' the content of the disk anymore. It seems to be stuck in a ' write these files to CD' but there is nothing to write. Normally I would also get an Erase these files (CD-RW) or Format the disk. But not anymore.Did the flashing and tried to reinstall the drivers. No luck so far.

I have tried to download the driver, only to find it was unsupported (Samsung SHW16Z. I had another one prior to this that had the same problem. i bought a new one, assuming it had packed up - now i find it's a software problem.
I uninstalled and reinstalled the driver - no wise - now windows XP wants to reinstall it as a CD Rom!
I have the original loading cd, which of course I can't use, and the drive is 4 months old. Can i download the software (driver) ANYWHERE? Samsung's site doesnt work. i downloaded VR355PAL.RUF, which is no use whatsoever.

i am having a sony dvd rw . earlier it was working fine .. but few days back it was having a problem in reading DVD's ... but it reads CD's perfectly
whenever i used insert a DVD the systems used to get hanged up ..
i tried a lens cleaner disc..
but now its not even reading cd's

I have exactly the same problem. Was burning a DVD on the drive using Sonic MyDVD on provided on my Compaq. It had an error at the end of the burning session then the drive doesn't read any disc DVD/CD.
