The green roller is the drum which has a cleaning blade to remove excess toner, when the drum gets older it becomes clogged and will dump toner back out onto the drum. Just some info on it. Best fix is replace the drum, you could take it apart and attempt to dump and clean it but it's rarely worth doing that.

Even with new ink cartridge printer prints light

Double click Control Panel.
Double click Printers and Faxes.
Right click your printer and select properties. Now on General tab select "Printing Preferences".

Now select the basics tab and click "Advanced features" found on the right of the page.
Here you will be able to adjust the amount of ink that is used to print a page. Side the bar to the right to increase/darken the print.

Now click OK, followed by Apply.

Take care!

Copies run through the feeder have black line on them, copies on glass & faxes are okay

Clean the ADF scanner glass. This is the small strip of glass that is just to the left of the large glass. Normally there is a label on the machine right by this glass that instructs you to clean this strip of glass whenever streaks appear when using the ADF or Automatic Document Feeder. Sometimes toner/dirt gets stuck on this strip of glass so clean it well using a soft cloth with some glass cleaner.

Brother MFC 8220 all-in-one fax prints with a vertical line

First guess is you have a bit of dirt (often white-out from people scanning corrected paper that's not quite dry) stuck on the fax scan window. This should be described pretty well in your user manual (which you can download online from brother.com).

Its also possible that there is dirt (typically loose toner) on the laser scan window (there's a laser that shines through it to get the image pattern on the drum). That window is often along the bottom of the unit under the drum/cartridge (take the cartridge out and look). The Brother manual I've seen seems to ignore this possibility.

Print streaks DO NOT mean cartridge drum replacement in many cases !! On brother Intellifax or MFC or other laser copier/printer/fax, keep in mind that either the fax/copy scan window OR the laser scan window can get dirty. If the fax scan window is dirty, you see streaks on outgoing faxes and copies (but NOT incoming faxes). If the laser scan window is dirty, you see streaks on all prints (copies, faxes, print-from-computer).

Note also that when transporting/moving some laser copier with the toner cartridge inside, the toner can get out and make a big mess inside (including getting the laser scan window dirty). An air compressor can be usefull to blow it out. And sometimes using alcohol to clean is a BAD idea (maybe incompatible with plastic and rubber parts). A damp rag is probably fine.

2 black streaks on copies and faxes

open (lift up) the document feeder. on the left side of the large glass, you should see a thinner, narrower piece of glass. sounds like you have white out or something like that on that glass.

Black vertical streaks on faxes & copies

On top of the toner/drum cartridge there should be a blue slider, move back and forth 10 times.

If no fix, you need a new toner cartridge.

Cannon ImageRunner 3300 streaking faxes/copies

First, do the streaks only appear on copies and faxes made using the document feeder? If yes, the thin strip of glass just left of the large platen probably has has a speck of dirt on it. The speck shows as a streak when the page scans over it. Clean with window cleaner, Viva towels and elbow grease. If you shine a flashlight on the glass its easier to find the specks.

If the streaks appear and you are not using the feeder tray, then call for service.

Copies and outgoing fax quality

your machine most likely has toner spills in it.
if you send faxes face side down follow these instructions ;
1- take out toner
2- look for thin glass strip on bottom inside the machine
3-wipe clean

if you make copies side up then do the same except look for glass strip on the upper side of machine

Light print of incoming faxes, cannot read

are copies light too? if not then it is sending fax, but most times it is inferior ink or drum causing the problem sometimes damp paper (try printing on reverse side as well)
