Norton Internet Security 2008 installation problem

adithyavijay on Feb 03, 2008

" "
Hello,
I am trying to install Norton Internet Security 2008. When I was first installing this product(which I bought a CD from a store), my computer battery drained away (after I entered the product code) and it shut off my computer. After I restarted and tried installing, I got an error saying "Unable to start setup, please contact technical support for assistance:. I tried various suggestion from symantec website and tried the following.
1. Installed a Microsoft Windows Installer update for my windows xp machine. Before this, it also said to rename some of the msi components which I did (in windows/system32 directory).
2. I was having a prior Norton Anti-Virus 2006 software which I tried to remove with Norton Removal tool (which again I downloaded from symantec site). This software was running for more than an hour on my machine, which did not end.

After this, I restarted my computer and tried to install Norton Internet Security 2008, but again I got the same error.

I also purchase a second time this software through internet, doubting the software was corrupted, but again to be bad luck, with the downloaded software also I got the same error,

Could you please help me in installing this software successfully?

Looking forward to your reply.

Thanks
Vijay

- Thanks Gyvate & Enquiry for your response to my problem.

I will try to run the Norton Removal Tool few times again as per your suggestion to see, if I could install Norton Internet Security 2008. I will let you know once I install the software successfully.

Thanks Again

I've tried all of the above (uninstall tool, manually uninstalling files), I even edited the registry per Norton's support. I still get the same message, "A setup error has occured that requires a reboot .Would you like to reboot now ?"

I am close to requesting a refund and purchase Antivirus Xp 2008.

Hi everyone,

If you face any problem in installing the software, you can run removal tool from symantec.

Even it fails to uninstall, manual uninstallation is the only way for problem less uninstall and installation [Uninstalling some registry keys and files which is created by norton].

* I am working for symantec. If you trust me, I can solve your problem through remote access for free!!

Take care

hey therre

NIS08 has a specific system requirement. has your system passed this?

in regards to everyones posts,

your issue is a fail installation and thus requires you get get rid of all the temp files in your %temp%,temp, prefetch folders.

to do this.

start>run>%temp%>delete everything here...
start>run>temp> delete all
start>run>prefetch
somethings there are actives files(currently being used by other programs), so just restart your computer to delete this later.

when done doing this, you have a higher chance to have a successful installation.

everything is in the norton site including the removal tool for failed installations.

if for failed updates... download the intelligent updater.

if you have other questions.. post them here..

The Norton Removal Tool available from Symantec Website is the solution ! You may have to run it twice or three times, if it gets stuck; and you have to restart the system afterwards - best not to have any other applications running during the NRT run, it may cause the NRT to fail or keep it from doing its job completely.
You can also run it in safe mode.

I unistalled NIS 2007 and replaced it with NIS 2008. I get the following Errors 3screen shots attached. ccApp.exe, uiStub2.exe, SWMCUW.exe failed to initialize. I have been trying everything to fix the problem for the last two months contacting symantec with no success. The best part of the matter is when I reinstall my Norton Internet Security 2007 it works perfectly, only I am out of Virus Definitions. Installed and reinstalled NIS 2008 10 times. Tried Auto Fix. Downloaded Intelligent Updater. Tried Norton Removal Tool Checked for Viruses and threats. Updated Windows Installer. Updated Root Certificate. My operating system is XP Pro-P4-3.2ghs 1024Ram
Thanks Felix

We have recently installed Norton internet security 2008 in 3 USR and have a product key number. However, following problems with our pc on 21/02/08 when our AOL internet cut out, we had to reinstall the software on our computer. We are now getting reminders from Norton telling us that our internet security is about to expire and we need to renew.
Can you advise us please on what to do next? Can we reuse the disk we purchased?
