Have you attempted to restore it within iTunes? I know no one likes having to do that, but this is most likely your best solution. If you are unsure as to how to restore the iPod please do let me know, I am happy to help any time I can.
Also when you attempt to reset it, do you see an apple icon appear? Or does it litterally just do nothing?

Ipod nano 8GB 3rd generation FROZEN!

You need to reset your ipod. Flip the hold switch on then off, then press select button and menu button at same time. Hold for 10 seconds or so. Ipod should shut off and reboot to apple screen. If this doesn't work first time try again. This should solve any stuck screen problems. Mine was stuck on pioneer screen and this operation fixed it.

have you guys tried a reset?

To reset your iPod:

  • 1. Toggle the Hold switch on and off. (Slide it to Hold, then turn it off again.)
  • 2. Press and hold the Menu and Select buttons until the Apple logo appears, about 6 to 10 seconds. You may need to repeat this step.
