Remove the tray, first look for a piece of paper that has come out of the tray inside the tray area.
Make sure the rolllers are snapped into place. The easiest way to verify that is to remove another tray and compare them.
Look to see if all the switches and actuators are in place.
Make sure you hear the tray up motor running when you close the tray.
Also inspect the paper tray itself for broken items. Compare it to another tray.

    Hi,

I am inquiring where I have failed in responce to your issue.

I am just looking how to improve the responce I can give to people who have issues with priducts.

I take a "thanks for trying" as a failure and am looking for ways to improve the resolutions I offer. If you can provide me with feedback, I can offere better answers in the future.

    Thanks.

    FAULT 917

Testing the sensor in service diagnostics may be inconclusive when using a separate magnet.

    Cause:

The sensor is polarity sensitive and may not be activated by some magnets.

    Solution:

    Fixed! Did not fix.

The Belt Hole IC (belt rotation) sensor can be tested using the magnet on the Transfer Belt that actuates the sensor during normal. The following describes the process for doing this.

Location of the Belt Hole IC sensor in the printer. Only the black plastic shroud is visible; the sensor itself cannot be seen.

Magnet on the Transfer Unit that actuates the Belt Hole IC positioned at six o'clock for testing the sensor.

Xerox phaser 7400

There really isnt an easy way to do that.
The transfer belt assembly starts off with a fuse on it to blow immediatly on install, and a counter that is internal so that it will end of life and have to be replaced. It's really not a convience counter but an obsolence counter.

The closest I can find to your description is a U6-0 and the suggestion is to replace the transfer belt assembly,
