SD cards have a slide switch along one edge. The position farthest from the metal contacts locks the card, protecting it from writes. The position nearest the contacts unlocks the card.

Are you just plugging the camera straight into the computer? Does it come with software to install? Try plugging the camera in while the computer is off and then turn the computer on with the camera plugged in.
Otherwise get a SD memory card reader that the SD card can plug directly into and this connects straight to the computer.
